    Transmission morse code......

Hey everyone!!! so after researching 5 full pages of "trans noise" via the search bar. i have found no thread directly influenced by my particular problem.

car info: 1992 dx, f22a1, stock manual 5spd transmission/clutch etc, nuespeed "short shift adapter", other than suspension mods, short ram, and a full "gutting"" minus hvac and dash", car is stock.

1st: i have a noise coming from the front right of my engine bay similar to morse code, an indirect, low frequency intermittant beeping, directly above and or around the tranny, not really prevalent from the front right wheel well, but almost directly above the trans.

2nd: this noise only occurs when the car is at normal operating temperature.

3rd: this noise NEVER happens when i am moving. i.e. driving, stopping etc...

4th: this noise only happens when the car is at a stop.

5th: whether i have the clutch engaged or not, car in gear but NOT moving the noise still persists.

6th: the only factor that affects the noise is the brake pedal!!! i.e. brake pedal engaged = no noise, brake pedal disengaged = noise. etc

7th: oddly enough, the noise "stopping" tends to alternate between which position the brake pedal is in, i.e. brake pedal engaged = noise, brake pedal disengaged = no noise.

8th: i should also add that i have zero issues up shifting, driving, dowshifting, clutch engaging etc....

I really have no idea what that could be, considering that the brake pedal constitutes whether or not the noise happens.

let us ponder a formidable solution!!!!

The brake pedal is not always an indication of the source when it comes to rattles. The dashboard on my Taurus rattles sometimes when I'm on the brakes at a light. It's just because I've made a more rigid object out of the car by eliminating a point of movement. As soon as I let off the brakes, regardless of whether I apply the gas it goes away.

Has your clutch ever been replaced? It could be a failed throw-out bearing.
My Members' Ride Thread - It's a marathon build, not a sprint. But keep me honest on the update frequency!

there is no rattle to speak of, it is a solid intermittant noise coming directly from or around the transmission. and ive had this problem for atleast a month and a half, the only variable i can find to stop the noise is the brake pedal. i do have a stock clutch that has never been replaced to my knowledge. the car has 225,000 miles and im the third owner

Brake assist pulls vac, could be reducing idle causing a shim in the car and rattling something. Letting off brake, let's of the vac demand and can raise idle.

Just a theory. Doesn't sound like anything mechanical. Can you get a clip of this happening?

i'll try i only have what my phone records and it doesn't register the sound. "i've tried". i should also add that the idle doesnt drop when the brake is engaged, atleast not on the dash.
