    Replacing the field coil

In the process of fixing my A/C, I've narrowed it down the the A/C clutch, with
the most likely culprit being the field coil.
I've found the instructions in Helms, but I have a few more questions.
I've just charged the system, so I want to keep the compressor connected
while it's being serviced. Is this possible? If so, how difficult is it?
    MRT
37.5 MPG, AC on, cruising at 80.
30.0 MPG, AC on, aggressively driving around 90.
27.5 MPG, no AC, cruising at 90 with occasional gridlock. 40 degrees Fahrenheit

I just had this done on my Fit! Sadly, I didn't do it... so I really can't help.

Also, I'm going to move this to the regular technical section. It's hardly a beginner question!

I was wondering when my questions would get to that point. Just wait till I
      have detailed trans questions!

The field coil itself is only $30. Here.

Here's one. There appear to be two different types of compressors. How do I
      know which one I have?

The clutch is part of the pulley
Are you going to try and just change the clutch?
If so I don't recommend it. Its hard to get off and chances are you will damage the seal on the compressor removing it. If I where you I would not waste time and change the whole compressor.
If you do as I recommend and change it you have to add oil to it, Alot of people dont know this.you dump 5oz of pag oil in a hole where a line bolts on or anyway you can get it in the system.

look for the id tag on the compressor

there are specific tools for removing the clutch and pulley from the compressor, then the field coil comes out easily

just be very careful, you don't want to damage the shaft that the clutch mounts to, if you do then its new compressor time

CB's came w/ either Denso or Hadsys compressors, look for the tag, it should be there.
