So i decided im going to fix my oil consumption issue... it only burns oil at startup after sitting so im left to hopefully presume that its the valve guide seals... Does anyone that's done these have tips on doing them i've read it can be done without taking the head off, also is there any part #'s i could use for the seals that would be helpful, i'd like to get genuine honda one's if possible but i did find a fel pro set Part # SS 70283-1... I might write up a DIY on this for future reference.

OP if it's only burning oil at start up it doesnt necessarily mean that its valve related. It could be that there is not a proper piston to cylinder clearance, and as the engine heats up and the metal expands the clearance is back within tolerances........just something to think about and check into.

Well if it's not a big job i was thinking i would do it when i adjust my lifters, since i have quite a bit of lifter chatter, and if i can get a set of valve seals for under $50 i might as well do it while i'm adjusting the lifters... provided it's not a big job, then later on if it still smokes i can do a leak down test. but maybe i should do the leakdown test 1st. My only problem is i'm going away for a month or so in 2 days and wanted to get it done before it gets too cold.

It is a pretty big job, especially if you plan on leaving the head on, you don't want to damage the valve stems removing the seals. When i did mine, i removed the head, made it a lot easier.Originally posted by Laviathan222 View PostWell if it's not a big job i was thinking i would do it when i adjust my lifters, since i have quite a bit of lifter chatter, and if i can get a set of valve seals for under $50 i might as well do it while i'm adjusting the lifters... provided it's not a big job, then later on if it still smokes i can do a leak down test. but maybe i should do the leakdown test 1st. A couple words of advice, try to find a spring compressor with thin arms, the springs around the oil galley are hard to get to. Also, to get a good seat on the seals, use a deep socket 12mm socket and hammer to install them. It doesn't take a lot of force to get them on.Originally posted by Mishakol129Do not disrespect my intelligence. I am the smartest person I know : )

A great way to capture the valve seat keepers is to stick a strong magnet to the end of the valve stem, or as near as possible, to suck them up as you press the spring down. This keeps you from accidentally dropping any down oil passages....My Member's Ride Thread
