    Stripped headstud hole

So I was torqueing down the headstuds and one hole stripped in one area. If I bought a tapper would I be able to tap the hole myself. I really need my car running and cant afford to remove the block where I live.

Whats weird is that its just one place where and the bolt goes more than halfway, where its stripped is near the top of the threads.

I wouldn't use a tap, maybe a thread chaser. Heli coil would be the best option.

Ehh. I may be wrong but your probably gonna have to tap it out a size bigger and find a headstud or get one made that size and the same length.

Yes take a tap and chase the threads. Did you inspect the bolts threads? They do stretch yours might have had enough torque cycles to stretch thus slimming the diameter and not allowing a section of threads to engage. Try swapping bolts to see if you have the same problem, or buy a new one. If those options are to no avail you will have to get a helicoil repair kit. You may have to bore out the hole larger, and install a helicoil that is the size of the stock stud. good luck.

This was the first HG change on the car.

So maybe I some how dinged the thread, so a regular tap is out of the question basically

Helicoil will be the answer for me.

But the threads start from couple of inches below the mating surface with the cylinder head. It will be extremely difficult to install a helicoil successfully.

Helicoil kit of this size will be expensive, too, for possibly one time use.

I would call a machine/engine shop for advice if it was me.

Look for replacement block/engine for under $400.

Why? All he needs is a new head.

Female threads of head bolts are in the block, no?

If it was exahust studs' female threads, I can do Helicoils right now with the head in place.

Are all of the threads in the block? For some reason I thought some of them were in some of the main caps.

Female threads for head bolts are all on the block, the last time I checked,,,,.
Not even one of them moved to other parts, yet, as far as I know.
