    Fuel Pump/ Electrical Problem

    Hey Guys,

I am having an issue which I believe is the fuel pump. I cannot hear my fuel pump turning on anymore.

The last time I drove my car was Friday night leaving a gas station, and I never drove it since. So today I tried to turn it on, and I can hear the engine turning but no go after a few attempts. Also, the headlights turn on, and there is 12volts at the battery.

I looked through the Haynes manual and tested the main relay, which checked out OK. It clicks and there is continuity on pins 7 & 5, and 1 & 3.

I checked the fuel pump connector and I noticed 2 yellow wires and 1 green wire.

I have voltage on the small yellow wire, 5 volts. But nothing on the large yellow wire unless I probed it incorrectly.

I can't find a fuse for the fuel pump either. How do I test the fuel pump ? Or any ideas?

    Thanks guys!

Check to see if you have battery voltage on #7. If you don't have it, main relay or ignition switch can be the culprit.

If you have voltage there, check voltage going into the pump. The plug can be found near fuel sending unit.

strangely after putting everything back together, main relay, fuel pump connecter this morning, it turned on

I didn't really fix anything other than a bunch of testing and jump starting the pump. All my fuses are good too.

When it doesn't start next time, you should check if its really a fuel issue or a spark issue. I usually use starting fluid/ether and spray it into the intake, if it starts and dies shortly after cranking its a fuel issue, otherwise I would look at the ignition coil and igniter.

He clearly says that he doesn't hear the pump coming on. It must be fuel pump related issue. But, stater fluid test will give him the direction he needs to go to for sure.

Intermittent problem is the one I hate to troubleshoot. If he is lucky, it may continue to work for a long time.

If I were him, I will be pulling out the wiring diagram with color code to find out that small yellow wire's function while the car is working.

I've never really heard the fuel pump in my cb, probably because all I hear is the stuck antenna sound instead.

As reference I can barely hear the one in my Fit in the morning, and its right under my ass.

Just got back from lunch driving my LX for a change. Saw your post. Went back to the car and double checked to hear the pump action. Sure enough, I can hear it. Amongst the other sound. Pumping. Not loud. It's a low humming.

So this is what you need to do if you still cannot hear it.

Turn off the radio, close the door, face to back and turn the key to on position. You'll hear humming coming from back and stops. That is the pump.
