    Ignition control module swap?

I noticed today that my rpms on my tach are starting to dance when i hit about 4000. From what I've read it seems the ICM may just be the culprit. My question is, can i swap the icm out of my internal coil distributor with the brand new one in the external distributor i have sitting in my garage.

This part is the same as the igniter right? What's the best way to take off the screws, particularly the center one, without stripping it? I think it uses a #2 bit right?
        Thanks.

IIRC some of the Honda ignitor screws are sealed with a type of lock tight from the factory. If that is the case, using a bit of WD-40/PB Blaster and then heating them up a bit with a hair dryer or heat gun may help make the removal easier.

Are those Igniter from Ebay any good or must I get one from the dealer? How long typically does the igniter and the internal coil last?
              Thanks.

Oem ftw. I think they also recommend some sort of heat compound kinda like putting the fan on a cpu..

TEC/Hitachi ignitors are the only way to go. The cheaper you go, the sooner you will be replacing it. That's a fact!

I have never used thermal grease. However, it wouldn't hurt to use some if you have it. If you go with one of the cheaper ones. I would definitely use the grease as added protection

So who sell the TEC/Hitachi ignitors for an affordable price?
                      Thanks.

What do you consider affordable? OEM isn't going to be cheap compared to an ebay/Big chain parts store part.

TEC = $90 from Honda parts online

The original internal coil igniter (short body) has been discontinued. So there are probably only a few stores that may still sell them. Other than that you will have to use one of the longer ones and the heat synch/mount from the same external coil distributor.

Do you mean NEC or TEC? I see on Rockauto, NEC and Hitachi for less than $90.
                          Thanks.

Yeah sorry TEC is the distributor and NEC is the igniter...

Didn't see any NEC or Hitachi ICMs listed for sale at Rockauto. The NEC & Hitachi names only appear in those listings in order to show what OE component is being replaced. Those are all aftermarket ICM units.

TBH, if you are only planning on having the car for a year or two any of the cheaper ones might do... Just remember in the case of electronics, you truly get what you pay for.

It says UNITED IGNITION WIRE Part # M615, NEC Module.
AIRTEX / WELLS Part # 6H1380, Hitachi module.
                              So those are not them?
                              Thanks.
