I got a quick question about the cleaner/degreaser Purple Power. I am using it to soak the ERG system on my intake manifold. I wanna know if its bad to let it soak as I heard it can eat aluminum.
What do you think?

I don't know if it will work on the EGR build up, that stuff is tough to get out. I've never heard of it eating aluminum though, so I am interested to hear someone else chime in.

The ports are already freed up and relatively clear but I wanna get it all the way clean. What you do to see if they're free is connect a water hose to the EGR port opening and you'll see water coming out from inside the intake runners. You'll see a bunch of carbon chunks come out if they're dirty.
You can soak the EGR system by pouring cleaner in the EGR opening.
I used PP when i cleaned my engine, stuff works great. I soaked everything, the only issue I had was with my runners. I tried soaking them overnight, woke up to a black stained set of runners.... My advice is to not soak them as long as I did.

PP is not strong enough to really clean the aluminum. You need to use Scotchbrites or wire brush to agitate and loosen gunk up. Your best bet to really get the aluminum clean is to bead blast it.
I just paint manifolds after cleaning them good. Wire wheels work great too on heavy cast aluminum. I've done 2 TPI manifolds this way, come out looking great.
I think im going to get a 5 gallon can and soak the intake in kerosene, itll eat the carbon, wont mess with the alloys and is a lot stronger then parts washer solvent. Ive also read that just hot water and DAWN dish soap work wonders on the carbon/oil crap if you let it sit enough and if needed multiple soaks and also wont fudge the aluminum (like dude said waking up to it black) Just make sure whatever cleaner you use PP, simple green you wash away ALL the residue or youll be p.o.'d
