O2 sensor keeps coming loose (crush ring?)

    Hey,

    92 Accord EXR
Since it got cold here (Canada) and metal expands, my O2 sensor keeps coming loose. I've tightened it twice now and a few days later I can hear it rattling. The one thing I noticed is that the washer/crush ring on it is toast. Its crushed flat and I can wiggle it down off the sensor if needed. I'm not going to put lock-tight on there as i'm sure that wouldn't go over well down the road. No check engline lights, just annoying rattling noise.

    Is this a crush ring?
Is it suppose to come off and can it be replaced?
    Any suggestions?

There maybe a hair line crack on the female threads.

      True.

      Anyone else?

I guess a better question would be, how do you keep the O2 sensor from coming loose? I heard of some people spot welding them?

Just a thought but tighten it then fasten the plug. Maybe if you tighten while its connected it could have some recoil in the cord.

Now that's a super duper recoil force/torque from wires on the sensor, you are talking about.

I reverse coiled the plug then put it in, hoping the wire tension would keep it in, that failed.

So I went and bought some lock-tight, and i'm going to try a small amount of this on the threads. If this fails, then i'll use a larger amount.

Did you rally fell for that!?

If it was not cracked, it must have been cross threaded or something that the exhaust pipe or the bung is in need of replacement.

Why don't you drill a hole on the hex so you can safety wire the thing if you are that desperate keeping the pipe and the sensor. Even then, the sensor may become loose.

Guess so. Its not cross-threaded, and still works great. It worked great all summer but now that fall/cold is here the metal has expanded and it keeps coming loose enough to rattle, but it never comes out.

I put some lock tight on the threads and it seems to be fixed now.
