    Surging Idle, Cel code

Hey. Haven't posted here in a while but I got a really annoying issue with my engine. I was driving back from a 15minute trip when it started happening. I noticed the car would buck after I let off the gas for 10 seconds. Thought this was nothing at first until I parked it, then it would surge up to 3500 rpms and back down.

Checked the cel and it looked like a code 17 (vss), but on second analysis it seemed to be a code seven (tps). I switched the teps with a new working one I had but instead of the idle going back down it stayed at 3500. So I took the tb off again and cleaned/adjusted the ftiv. While doing that I put back on the previous tps. Non of this helped except using the old tps caused the idle to go back down.

Chexked for vac leaks, nothing was found with brake cleaner sprayes. Checked my throttle line and vac hoses, all seemed fine. A thing I noticed was when I shut it off the car stumbles kind of violently.

Im not sure why it would just randomly do this while driving back. My tps wiring is suspect, but im not sure. I even tried running it without the tps unplugged but it lit up a cel and the car would not idle back down. Car never threw a cel until then, before I had to jumper it to find the codes.

Could my intake have a crack In it? Please help this issue is gonna mess things up if I dont get it fixed soon.

    Thanks

Video of the Cel. Looks like a vss code but my vss is working fine.

Check your manual, it states how to check the TPS sensor with a volt meter. I would rule this out first. It definitely sounds like the engine thinks its getting too much air and adjusting the rpms accordingly. I would put the FITV back to where it should be and try to solve the original issue. You also need to troubleshoot the VSS sensor and check it with a volt meter. But ya, any of these sensors could be your problem.

Thanks for the advice. I found out what it was today... in about a minute. It was a vacuum leak. Turns out the gutted iab plate from my manifold had the liquid cold weld sucked in the engine leaving a large leak. I was surprised it did this. My only thought is if whether that jb weld could have caused engine damage or not. Seems like it wouldnt but im not sure. Used a bolt with some grey rtv to close the hole.

Man, I messed up. When I put the tb back on I forgot to snug down the ftiv bolts and ended up with a bad coolant leak. As I drove down the road I didnt realize this and the cars temp gauge overheated. Well it didnt overheat according to this, it reached about the 3/4 mark about 5 or six times for about 5 seconds each time. My thought I was screwed but I went online and it says my engine didnt actually overheat and that overheating is only when the needle reaches the red line or above it. I quote from this site: http://techauto.awardspace.com/overheating.html#general

"Problem: General overheating issues. An overheating engine is characterized by the climbing of the needle which may eventually reach the red mark on the temperature gauge. The normal operating temperature of a normal Honda is 89-90-degrees Celsius. During hill climbing the needle may climb but it's not considered to be overheated if the needle doesn't reach the red mark. "

How much truth is to this and have I ruined or damaged my engine by letting it go above normal operating temperature?

I just dont want my baby to have any engine damage and need to know if it was bad to have it go 3/4 the way to red line.

A long time ago I over heated my Accords engine (once) to the point of boiling coolant (and needle in the red zone). I can't say for sure how long it was too hot, or how hot it actually got, and I can't recall what caused it to overheat (it might have blown the coolant hose beneath the distributor, rings a bell). I was very worried for a day or so, but I was lucky, no damage done.

You may or may not be so lucky, only a few days running will tell, keep an eye on the gauge...
