Steering issues- rack or pump, or both?

Whats up guys. Been having an issue with my power steering pretty much since I bought the car last year. Its really tough to steer at low speed (pretty much like there is no power steering) When making a turn, sometimes the steering will be firm. once it gets to a certain point, its almost like the power steering starts "working" and the steering wheel will get extremely easy to turn and suddenly jerk. I also get some popping when I turn in certain scenarios. I get vibration in the wheel when stopping on the highway, the wheel shakes side to side. Also I get vibration while accelerating and turning. I know something in the steering is messed up, but Im not sure what. The pump itself doenst whine, and appears to be working. Fluid is still clean.

Axles, upper and lower control arms and ball joints, shocks, brakes and rotors, outer tie rods were all replaced.

the popping sounds like the rack is going bad. or you have something loose.

our cars use a variable assist vss to regulate assist down low and on the highway. id check to make sure its connected and working.

thanks for the response! I checked to see if anything in my front end was loose and its all solid. except the rack. So that answers that question. Where is that vss connector located?

On the transmission. kind of under the throttle body, closer to the bulkhead. It's held in by a single 10mm bolt that's shaped weird. It's a two piece part..

just checked, its still connected. I guess my steering rack is toast then

If you do get a steering rack Napa , is a good price! But I've heard of there refurbished racks leak on install. Happened personally to my friends cb and I've seen it here on cb7 to another member.

So just be aware.
