- fuel pressure
- distributor condition
- check engine error codes
Consult your manual on how to check these items. And when it doesn't start does it turn over and over or will not turn over?

the starter solenoid might be bad. the starter motor relies on a secondary coil to "extend" the drive gear. If this gear isn't being extended and meshed to the flywheel, the starter motor will just sit and spin in place, not cranking anything.
Might want to try replacing the whole starter (not just rebuilding it with a new motor..). In the meantime, maybe whack on your existing one with a hammer, in case anything is stuck inside.

If the starter just makes a whirring sound, then cp[mike] is certainly correct. I have experienced this myself in the past. My friend and I managed to test 3-4 "working" starters that did not extend far enough for the starter gear to catch and spin the engine. In the store, they appeared functional. They spun freely, and the drive gear extended... but apparently not far enough. Replace the starter with a known good one, and your problem will likely be fixed.
