    Accelerating Problem

alright, i attempted to search and i know this has probably been covered before, but i really cannot describe the problem in i couple words. i did search for key words with no luck, so here we go...

on my h23a1 swap, the rpm's dont match the power.

    first gear is fine, perfect.

shifting into second and the other gears, i will give it gas and the rpm's will rise but im pretty much not going anywhere....well, its just not matching the power, as stated above.

    any ideas?

or can anyone give me some searchable words to help me out?

    thank ya

Did you replace the clutch? sounds like the clutch is slipping. Or was there any grease/oil spilled on the clutch/flywheel that could be on there?

clutch came on the motor, fairly low miles on it. at the time, i dont believe there was any grease on it/them

...but for now, im going to go pick up a timing gun in a little bit and see what i can do from there

after further investigation, that seems to be the culprit

Yeah, thats what it def. sounded like. how much have you driven it? If not too much, there could just be some grease on there if you are lucky, and it'll burn off, and fix itself. If not...

              hmm

well.. as long as the engine is running fine, and everything else is good, driving it around a little (close to home) couldnt hurt. That way, if it is oil, it needs to burn off. How did the clutch look or did you not take apart the tranny?

yea, i think that is what i will do in the meantime. tomorrrow i will drive to and from work since it is < 5 miles away

i didnt get a good look at the clutch itself, but the pressure plate had slight finger wear.

maybe it needs to be re-aligned

but yea man, im gonna try and drive it short distances here and there and hope for the best

yeah, hopefully it just got some crap on it. It could be even slight surface rust that is between it. But hopefully it'll start grabbing. I think when I installed my exedy, i must have gotten a little something on it, and I think it was slipping for a little while. but then it got its act together and doesnt do it anymore.

sounds like serious slippage.. stop and go sinerios are best to get rid of it.. constant stop and go (engaging/disengaging ) should clear it up.. if its not that.. jody sold ya a slipping clutch

                    get on aim.. f00

Just do the 5th Gear ebrake thing...see if the car moves or stalls...

otherwise I'd go roast the tires a few times and see if you can't burn off any greasy fingerprints or goo on the flywheel...

if that doesn't work think about a new clutch... and a flywheel resurface...

hmm hard to say, i guess what your describing would make sense because its fine in 1st, yet every gear after that is harder to turn and thus making the clutch slip. hesitation, stutter,

                          thanks for the input guys!

turns out that driving it was the best medicine. i put ~30 miles on it tonight and gears 1-4 are starting to come together while 5th is still a lil iffy.

...but i plan on baking my tires some tomorrow

                            awesome!!

glad to hear its almost all workin. Since you said the clutch was fairly new, I figured a little grease or something had to be the culprit.
