    Intake question (failed visual)

okay, went to my smog test today and passed the emissions part with flying colors BUT i failed visual.
when i was having problems with my distrubotr, the mechanic routed one of the vacuum lines wrong and my car would surge and die.

so i uncapped this line (which is supposed to be capped and originally went to the vacuum box near the resonator)

and routed this line to the intake

problem is, that is the only setup that will allow me to run correctly. otherwise, the car will surge and die and shit. so i really dont know what to do.

OH, and does anyone know where this bracket is supposed to goto? in the manual, it says if the intake is not mounted via bracket than the warranty is viod?

Well I was just gonna relink this picture in the DIY Cold Air Intake Install thread, but then I realized your bracket is not in the same spot.

As far as that vaccuum line is concerned... i know everyone plugs it but I don't like doing that. On mine I just connected a Y connector on to the intake and ran both vaccuum lines to the Y. Mine seems to work just fine and I've never failed emmissions... been that way for 3 years now.

hmm, ill try that but even if i route the one port that is supposed to be capped, it still wants to die and shit. so even with the Y connection, id doubt that it would help and i also found out that the line likes to have it unblocked. There is actually a lot of air going in, so much that one could hear it from 3-4 feet away.

Dude, you need to cap off that port, thats a huge vacuum leak you're creating. if it doesn't run right with it capped, you need to find the source of the initial problem. Try resetting base idle, cleaning out the IAC, etc etc....

            Oh my god.
            I am SUCH A MORON.
So all this time I've been cleaning out my IACV, EGR, PCV, ATV, PWC, ATX, and every other friggin abbreviation I can think of trying to fix this loping idle problem (which btw is very random and doesnt always do it), all I had to do was cap one stupid line. Three years after I installed this intake its been like this and I never once thought it was the problem. Go mrhonda and that DIY Intake Install thing. Fixed my high idle too, which probably means I'll start getting better gas mileage (currently getting 18-20mpg)! WOOHOO!

okay, i busted out the old vacuum box and ran the supposedly capped off line to the box, hooked up the sensor..started to run okay,m my idle was around 700-800.

i bought the right amount tubing and im going to mount that box int he stock location, make the vacuum lines look legit and test drive it.

OH, and i already cleaned out my IAC...

No man, you don't have to do all that, just cap it off at the manifold. 92/93 DX/LX's don't even have that air box thing, that port is just capped.

well it worked that way and i dont think the guys at the smog test center likes it to be capped.

they want it to run somewhere and if i just run it to the box, it'll make them happy and ill pass. dont feel like troubleshooting more shit if it runs right...

not trying to argue with you but just that...it runs right with the box there and after i pass smog completely, ill trouble shoot from there but i still dont feel the need to fix something when it runs well.

hooked up the stock vacuum box and drove arounbd, runs even better than having it uncapped.
