    Tranny Problems, Need Help

I was driving home tonight and at about 6500rpm i shifted quickly into 4th. Suddenly(instantly) the shifter felt kinda lose, i tried putting the car in another gear and i couldn't. I coasted to a side street and tried to fiqure out what was wrong. Basically the tranny seems to be stuck in 4th gear, even when shifter is in neutral position tranny is still in 4th. Shifter will not go in any other position except for neutral and 4th.

I managed to get the car home, but have to wait until tomorrow (daylight) to do an investigation. Any suggestions as to what can be wrong. Im capable of doing labour but as to whats wrong i don't know, i have limited knowledge in this area. I hope maybe just the cables broke or slave cylinder, something like that. My worst fear is that the tranny ceased somehow.

The engine is JDM H22, with JDM M2A4 (prelude) tranny. The tranny shouldn't have more that 60 000km (40000miles?). Also the clutch and flywheel are ACT and have been in car for less than 10000km. Any help is much appreciated, this is my daily driver and my baby.

    Thanks

sounds a lot like shifter cable to me. and if your not so lucky......shift fork. you can also look to see if the shift cable came unhooked from the transmission, maybe the person that put the transmission in didnt use a correct cotter pin or none at all (it was just swapped in afterall). it dont sound like the transmission itself but anything is possible i guess.

          try this:

take your center console apart. the shift cables pass through a metal frame(directly under the ash tray area) right where they are held in with these brass looking C-clips. its possible one of the clips popped out which causes the cable to lose tension, and possibly why you can't shift out of gear.

yes make sure that the clips are still holding the cables to that metal plate under the center console. If that fails then check on top of the transmission to see if the cottor pins broke and the cable came loose. Make sure you have washers on those cables because some people dont put washers when they do swaps and the cable just jiggles around and eventually will break the cottorpin.

OK, problem solved. The shifter cable came off at the tranny. Put it back on with new washers and a cotter pin. So happy it wasn't something major, but this is honestly what I thought the problem was. Thanks for everyones input, I was a bit worried last night.

              Thanks again
