    Noob question - common problems?

    Yo guys,

n00b here - been on g2ic for awhile, but I'm going to probably pick up a 91 Accord this weekend.

Main question is - what are the most common problems on these cars? The one I'm picking up is an LX sedan, about 120k, 5 speed. I know Integras have more than their share of common problems, the most annoying one being the cowl leak and sunroof leak (both of which my now-dead 91 Integra has). Second question being one that I'm sure is asked plenty - is the timing belt due every 60k or 90k?

    Thanks

timing belt is every 90k, common problems=leaky dizzy, leaky valve cover, weak ringlands, vss, ummm leaky trunk that all i can think of for now....alll simple cheap problems except for ringlands. welcome to the site! long live the CB7!!!

Ah yeah, 90+ accords have an electronic speedo instead of a cable driven one don't they? I'll take a flaky VSS over having to yank the (cable driven) cluster out of my teg again

Ringlands could pose a problem, the rest should be cake. Something in the back of my head is nagging me saying that there was a distributor recall on CB7's due to them locking up or something though? Or was that another car?

Admittedly, I'm mainly buying it as a beater/daily driver to use while I take my Integra off the road (it burns enough oil to make James Bond jealous of the smoke screen), but I've always liked the 90-93 Accords anyway. Who knows, if the car winds up being in good shape (for a $1200 car) I may wind up fixing it up a bit.

      Thanks!

id like to know the reasoning why you think our ringlands are weak? they have held up to 2 years of boost on my car..there no weaker than any other non-turbo car

Well, you may experience alittle bit of irratic idle, it's a very easy fix, no new parts would be needed usually. The main relay can fail after some time, not a big deal If you need new rotors up front, then you have to deal w/ what's called hub over rotor The rotors/brakes are fine, it's just the design.

Ringlands are fine, Honda never really intended the cast aluminum pistons to see excessive pressure due to high compression or FI. Unless you get really crazy, you'll be fine. Several members here are boosted w/ stock internals or have planed their heads down w/ stock bottom end.
