Buy a new filter. Locate your old one (behind the intake closer to the passenger side). Undo the top side bolt first. Have a rag handy cause gas is gonna pour out. Then undo the side line. More gas should come out. Then, undo the holding clamp on one side of the filter (2 screws, only need to remove 1 to get it out). Bolt your new one in and use all the new washers it comes with. When it's done, turn the ignition to ON for a minute to let fuel pressure build up. Then turn the car on (might take a moment) and check for leaks

^^^ exactly, but one more thing:

-before you loosen the banjo bolt on the old filter, make sure you removed the gas cap to relieve pressure

How often should a fuel filter be changed? I know on my Toyotas, they say its not a maintenence item and does not need to be changed under normal circumstances.

I have 318k miles on my junk, and i dont think it's ever been replaced.

You really think 60 litres of gas is kept at 40 lbs/inch?

You can start your car with the gas cap off, and it'll run just fine.
Just a quick, I'm an idiot, question... Why the hell does the gas tank hiss when you remove the cap?

you need to relief the pressure in the feul rail buy looseing the banjo bolt on the fuel rail, then youll be all set! but dealing with the feul filter is such a bitch!

that hissing you sound is air rushing into the gas tank...when you run your car down to very little fuel, it creates a vacuum effect in the gas tank, so when you pop it open, the air rushes into the tank to fill the void, hence the hissing sound...THANKS 6th grade physics teacher !!

Yes the fuel tank is pressurized whoever said it wasn't, nonetheless I've been doing this all quarter and just did it to mine, pop off your fuel cap, pull the fuel injector fuse, and press in your schrader valve on the fuel rail to relieve the pressure, use a rag wrapped around it to catch the fuel, unbolt the old filter, bolt the new filter in, screw the cap back on put the fuse back in and start the car, congrats your done.

Because it doesn't approve of you?

Actually, seems to me that as the fuel level decreases, it creates a bit of a vacuum in the tank. Removing the gas cap with a full tank makes no hiss, but doing so with a nearly empty tank allows an inrush of air into the tank caused by a vacuum left by the lower fuel level.

Actually in new cars 96 and newer obd II to be exact alot of cars will run like shit with the gas cap off and you can throw a code, your gas tank isn't held at the typical 33-40 psi that your fuel rail is but it does hold pressure. Typical procedure to relieve pressure on all vehicles starts with removing the gas cap. It's for a reason, don't ignore that.

Yes, I know it'll throw a code for emissions, but it will still fun just fine.
