Ok i recently spun a rod bearing in my 2nd f22a. so we grabbed a junkyard motor, longblock only, and dropped it in. we swapped over the intake (f22a6 intake), header (dc-s), distributor, pretty much everything onto the new long block. we put it in, got everything hooked up, and it started up first shot, and runs great, idles fine, everything.
Now lately, i've noticed it's not running quite perfect. I'm lacking alot of power in the 1500-3000 rpm range. i know there's not alot there, but i can tell a difference. also, i notice the tachometer jumps around alot, especially when i'm on it. the tach generally, intermittenly jumps about 500 rpms, always up from actual, never down. i took it out yesterday, and took it on some windy backroads, and i noticed when i get hard on it, it has a habit of skipping intermittenly and sporadically. i'm only throwing one code for CEL, and it's for the VSS which i knew was going bad. I know something wasn't right when i raced a 17.3 car and lost on the street. i gave him the hit, but still i couldn't pull on him at all. and from all indications of what i run based on who ive raced etc i should be running a 16.3-16.7. either way something is wrong, and it's bugging me that my car isn't running as good as it should. I haven't rechecked fuel pressure yet, but it should be the same seeing as how i took intake manifold off the old engine.
Also, idle occasionally drops to < 500rpms with the clutch in/in neutral (traffic light etc)
Larry (oneoffaccord) suggested it might be a bad dizzy. This is a possibility, but it doesn't explain why i would start having these problems directly after an engine swap. The coil is relatively new, the ignitor has maybe 5000 miles on it, plugs and wires are relatively new NGK for both. So if it is the distributor, then what part of the distributor? or just replace the whole thing?
Let me know what you guys think.
