    jumping tach, skipping sometime.

Ok i recently spun a rod bearing in my 2nd f22a. so we grabbed a junkyard motor, longblock only, and dropped it in. we swapped over the intake (f22a6 intake), header (dc-s), distributor, pretty much everything onto the new long block. we put it in, got everything hooked up, and it started up first shot, and runs great, idles fine, everything.

Now lately, i've noticed it's not running quite perfect. I'm lacking alot of power in the 1500-3000 rpm range. i know there's not alot there, but i can tell a difference. also, i notice the tachometer jumps around alot, especially when i'm on it. the tach generally, intermittenly jumps about 500 rpms, always up from actual, never down. i took it out yesterday, and took it on some windy backroads, and i noticed when i get hard on it, it has a habit of skipping intermittenly and sporadically. i'm only throwing one code for CEL, and it's for the VSS which i knew was going bad. I know something wasn't right when i raced a 17.3 car and lost on the street. i gave him the hit, but still i couldn't pull on him at all. and from all indications of what i run based on who ive raced etc i should be running a 16.3-16.7. either way something is wrong, and it's bugging me that my car isn't running as good as it should. I haven't rechecked fuel pressure yet, but it should be the same seeing as how i took intake manifold off the old engine.

Also, idle occasionally drops to < 500rpms with the clutch in/in neutral (traffic light etc)

Larry (oneoffaccord) suggested it might be a bad dizzy. This is a possibility, but it doesn't explain why i would start having these problems directly after an engine swap. The coil is relatively new, the ignitor has maybe 5000 miles on it, plugs and wires are relatively new NGK for both. So if it is the distributor, then what part of the distributor? or just replace the whole thing?

Let me know what you guys think.

Dude I'm having the same problem too but mine is auto doe, my tach jumps from time to time and I dont know why is that maybe is the vss or something. Sometimes when im driving around the tach stops then later it gets to the speed I'm cruising around, but when I stop on a red light the tach starts to jump again like when you hit the accelerator that the rpm guage goes up and down by its own, so would someone plz tell me whats going on with it.

yea i dunno, i know my VSS has been kicking on and off over the past couple months, and after the swap it pretty much stopped work ing all together, but i have an extra one to put on soon. i don't know what impact VSS would have on the tach tho...

i would check ignitor and coil.

i'm getting sick of replacing $90 ignitors

normally a bad ignitor will just cause the car to intermittenly not start, or it will shut off, either way it's usually more than just a skip, just my .02 on that tho

              what about coil?

I mean before you starting throwin new parts in your ride, check the resistence values. Just remember it may test fine cold, but once it warms up it could be the source of your problem.

argh, my car's tach last night started jumping when i got onto the freeway but after that it was fine.

the coil and ignitor was supposedly in mint condition because i pulled it out of a new distributor but it had a bad TDC sensor.

i know when my ignitor was going the car ran fine for a couple months, just wasgetting 10mpg because of the amount of misfire above 3k.

                  so check your mileage.

well car's idle jumps around when im sitting at a light or whatever...and was told that it was the IAC (which im tryin to find one right now) so idk if that could be the solution to your prblem ...idk just throwing ideas out there

turns out problem was a loose distributor
that just proves, do a visual inspection before looking for deeper problems!
