WHAT is this!??!?!

hey guys, i have a question. i drive a 90 EX coupe 5spd. my question is this. underneath the steering column, and the bottom of the dash, where all the wiriing hangs down, there are 2 small switches. one says: DISARM VALET and NORMAL. the other says BEEP ON, and BEEP OFF. what do these switches do??? thanks for any help!!!

sounds like alarm switches. one for velet mode and one to turn chirps on and off

so if i switch the BEEP to ON, then what will it do?? chirp when i lock it? does it require like the remote, caus i didnt even know they made those back then, and in any case, i dont have it if they did come with them.

those are deff alarm switches....

sounds like one is to turn the valet mode on? maybe?

and the other is to have your alarm in normal mode


and beep on and beep off is kinda of self explanatory.

Well yes it would chirp with the door locks but that would require keyless entry and , yes, a remote.

I dont think that is a OEM alarm...might be but id guess its aftermarket...you the first owner?

well what is valet mode??? is that what makes it so one of my keys works on locks, and the other key works on the ignition??

It is the OEM alarm. I've got the same thing with my 93 wagon EX. Originally it came with the remote directly on the key. One simple button that transmits a signal right to your door handle using infrared (sort of like your TV remote). It has two lithium ion rechargeable batteries in it that charges by your key being in the ignition. The range is usually 18" (ridiculous I know). If you don't have the key with the remote on it. You can set the alarm to beep and auto and it will automatically arm itself. To disarm, unlock the door put the key in the ignition and hit the disarm button within 30 seconds.

valet mode is where it doesnt arm itself, the alarm is turned off so that "valets" can park your car and mechanics can work on it and it can be washed without the alarm going off....

basically, id tear it out and upgrade to a Viper alarm made by DEI. Keyless entry, remote start....the pagers have an alert system 2 way style....its awesome!

whoa, easy buddy, i dont got 400 dollars for a viper security haha. is there any way i could get a new remote for it???? any way at all?

you could try and go to an audio/alarm shop or go to a Honda dealership and see what they say....if its the factory alarm then Honda might be able to redo a remote to work for you...if its aftermarket your best bet is an alarm shop
