    Hose LEAK/Overheating Question **PICS**

STILL NOT WORKING LOOK AT POST #18 FOR THE STORY.
Alright so I was on my way to UPS today to ship a package.. I went out and started the car about 2 minutes before I left, started driving, the temperature gauge was halfway (like normal). I got about halfway to UPS and noticed that my temperature gauge was rising quickly toward the H. It was about 3/4 of the way up to the H. So I found the nearest parking lot and pulled off the road, stopped the engine and popped the hood. I did not see anything. I sat there long enough for the cooling fans to cycle.

After the fans cycled I started it up again. The temperature gauge went right to halfway again. So I thought I was in the clear. I made it to UPS, shipped the package, came back out and started it again, everything was fine still halfway. Again I get about halfway home and the gauge starts rising again. I pull off in the same parking lot and do the same thing that I did before. I didnt hear or see anything abnormal. After the fans cycled again I got back in and continued home. I made it home just fine. Just to check again I popped the hood when I got in my driveway, I could hear a sizzling sound as soon as I opened my door.

I got to the front of the car and opened up the hood, and found that the underside of the hood was wet with what smelled like coolant. I looked at the front upper radiator hose that I just replaced about 3 months ago it was wet also but I didnt see where it was coming from. I kept looking and finally found the source of the sizzling noise that I had heard. Back below the dizzy there is what appears to be a radiator hose that runs from the passengers side of the motor back to the firewall on the same side. There is a very small hole in that hose near the ring that holds it on. I immediatly thought that maybe running my heater did it. I did NOT run my heater even half power. So that is why I am stumped. I went in the house and picked up the good ole camera and snapped a few pictures.

You have to look kind of carefully in ^^^ but it is right below the distributer.

This hose looks like it could be a little tricky to access semi-easily. So I guess what my question is... What does this hose do? How hard is it to replace and what all would be required to replace it? (do I have to drain my coolant, etc.) Any help is GREATLY appreciated. I need to be back up and running by NO later then one week, since I already have plans for a little road trip to see a ceartain someone. Please let me know ASAP! I can get some more pictures if need be, just give me a hollar. Thanks in advance. Later

If it goes from t-stat to firewall most likely your heater hose.

there are 3 heater hoses in the engine bay. a short one from the firewall to the hot/cold valve, the one from this valve to the side of the head (this is the hose in question) and another hose on the other side from the firewall to the back of the block.

that hose is easy to get to, especially if you pull the intake pipe and distributor off. get the hose from autozone, they list it as a Heater Hose and the subdescription is "Valve to Inlet".

Yea it's the heater hose you could get a new one or just cut the hose and top off your coolant and good as new! Over time those hoses tend to blow a lil, if you was to look at it when the car is warm they expand like a mofo!

Thats sucks, i just had to change my thermostat bypass hose a couple days ago. You took some good pics man, I can see the coolant coming out the hose, must be heater related or something.

To replace this do I need to drain my coolant or anything like that? And is this the reason I keep overheating? Later

well i would imagine that when you pull the hose off your going to lose a good amount of coolant...so you could drain/refill or just top it off....

coolant will leak out. make sure your hot/cold knob is tightly set to Cold to keep the core from emptying. once it stops dripping out, replace the hose and top off the coolant. and yes, thats undoubtedly why you could be overheating, unless you have other issues we dont know about.

                        **more Pics**

Hose starts here ^^ towards the back of the picture you can see the clamp that holds it on...

Ends here ^^ It is the lowest hose in this picture and it ends at the silver/metal thing you can see there.

Just thought that migh help. LMK. Later

That is the only issue that I am aware of. Besides being almost ready for a fresh batch of motor oil. Thanks for the help guys. Later

nope, thats what parts stores list it as.

ask for the diagram of it, its shaped sorta like this:
