theres also another smaller seal around the main rotating shaft, which allows it to turn but still keeps oil out of the dizzy itself. if this seal goes bad (not as common) youll start getting oil pooling inside of the dizzy housing itself. that can start killing the pickup coils/ignitor. QUOTE]
YUMMY..food for thought! you learn something new EVERYDAY on here!
I been working on Hondas for some years now..and I never knew that!
thanks Mike for the insight!
I thought that O ring NEVER went bad!...never seen that happen before!
It happens. I had oil coming from the bottom of my distributor cap.
The key thing is to take a paint pen or some marker, make a line from the distributor triangular base to the cam cap it screws into as a reference mark so you know how to line the dizzy back up to the cylinder head when you reassemble it. Then, remove the dizzy, remove old O-ring, put a little oil on new O-ring and slip it on the dizzy. Reinstall, lining up the marks you made....assuming your ignition timing was set correctly before, you're golden.

Thats the plan, thanx for the advice

i'm just wondering though, since theres soooo much oil dripping down onto the tranny and my VC is off so i can do the tube seals and all that jazz.
should i put my VC back on and clean the area of the oil first or replace the seal and then go back to cleaning?

I doubt you need to remove the vc tho but that wouldnt hurt cause all that is easy enough. I bought my seal at honda on the way home and it cost me $2.19 w/ tax included.

i grabbed an o-ring from Advance. i measured the OEM diameter and got one with the same diameter, but with a little thicker rubber. i had to give it a little force to get the distributor back into the block. it should seal and hold up much longer then the thinner one

I thought about that but lets see how good OEM is

OEM is fine, but one of the guys i work with has been there for years and years and he's a mechanic and see's cb7's all the time. he recommended i use the larger o-ring for a longer lasting, better seal

Are all the o-rings made from the same material and for the same use? O-rings, are they universal and just based on the size
