    HElP NEEDED! Scared to Drive!!

Holy fu*k!! I havent felt so scared in my LIFE(in awhile that is). I dont know if you guys read my previous thread about a suspicious "knock" sound. Here is the link so you can catch up if needed.
    http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=74136
Well this morning I was on my way to work and I noticed the "sound" have changed its pattern. As my last thread I only heard it when I was slowing down or after I release the brake. Well, I just got the scare of my life within a 10 minute drive to work. I notice I began to hear the knock/clunk sound while upshifting from 1st to 2nd gear(auto) which was strange but I didnt really think about it. I stop at the ATM for 3 minutes to grab some cash and thats when the chaos began. At low*(10-20mph) or high(40-45mph) I hear this knock/clunk sound but now its a rapid KNOCKING/CLUNKING sound which scared the fuck outta me. All I could think about is that it might be my axle and my wheel is about to fall off(I've seen this happen a couple times and I dont wanna experience it) I've never been in state of panic like that before, good thing I was about 1.5 minutes away from work when the sound became pronounced. I never ever hear any sounds when making left or right turn or even when i make full u-turns which would rule out the possibility of the cv axle gone bad but now I'm really confused. I was suppose do that vacuum test on the rear mount tomorrow but I need to know today!! Help me please guys. Could it be the axle even tho I havent experienced the other bas cv axke symptoms? Is it safe to drive at reasonable speeds with this sound?

i would have somebody bring you back to the car with a jack, jack up the front end and take a close look at whats going on, check for anything loose, rotate the wheels and see what you can see...

I'm gonna have my girl pick me up from work but I dont want to leave th ca rin my work parking lot. Shit, I wouldnt mind paying to get it fixed but now i'm scared to drive it which limits my actions....oen of my buddies is a manager at a tires plus about 10 minutes from my job but I dont know if I'll make it there...SHIT!!

I got my hydraulic jack in the trunk, i'll wait till lunch and take my side skirt off and jack it up and see whats up. Anything specific to check on the cv axle? There was no tears rips in the boot when I check last time so whats a other way to diagnos this?

hows the condition of ur inboard CV joints??

are u sure its ur axles?

if ur confident in ur machinery, take it slowly

u can continue driving, but slowly and carefully

Maybe thats your balljoint clicking around cuz its loose and you may need a new one. Have you checked that or replaced that? Thats the only thing off the top of my head.

I'm very confident in my car you never know with 14 yr old car. I'm gonna get a 2nd opinion on all my theories. I just talk to my buddy Joe(drifft) and he said I shouldnt worry about the axle. I'm gonna do a little more diagnosing on my break and report back with my findings.

I had an anchor-bolt style camber kit break on me... and your description reminds me of how that was.

Check your upper control arms to make sure nothing is flopping around. It doesn't sound like an axle to me. The axles don't perform any sort of suspension duty, they just turn. It sounds like something loose... brake or suspension related. Or even engine mount, but I think you'd recognize a broken engine mount making that much noise!

DEFINITELY check your control arms, ball joints (ball joint failure is catastrophic, and could be very dangerous), brake components, etc... Something is definitely loose. From the sounds of it, it'll be obvious when you locate it!

Cool, I just checked the car again and its still making the same sound....the vacuum lines are intake on the rear mount but evident to me that the urethane part of the mount is crack which will need replacing....not sure if this is teh source of the sound tho. I get the vibration associated with a bad rear mount especially with the a/c on but for some reason I think you might be right deevs. I moved my car to a more secluded part of the parking lot so I can jack up the car on lunch to see whats going on.

Ok, this is so strange.....I wnet to check my lugs on the driver side...one was slightly loose(1 1/2" turn to tigthen) and everything else was good. I inspectec the upper CA and lower ball joints thru my rims and they seem good enough Nothing noticably different. I started the car and drop around the building not exceeded 25mph and there was absolutely NO sound anymore....weird, huh? This leads me to think that the rear mount IS the culprit seeing that it operates with vaccum and upon cold start the engine vacuum is real low(correct?) which why i didnt here enything
