    Ignition Repair, Please help!

As some of you know, my car got stolen a few months ago and i got it back. well i been putting it all back together, but ive got a major problem. the whole ignition starter thingy needs to be replaced (excuse my lack of knowledge on the terms for this area of the car).

as you see here the they bent the whole thing at an angle, im assuming in order to get the ignition easier. that bracket at the end of the steering column should be parallel to with the dash panel.

but heres the main problem. its been broken obviously but i cant figure out how to get it the rest of the way off. or getting a new one on for that matter. theres no hex bolts holding it together, they're more of a rivet like bolt. anyone have any ideas???

they are break-away bolts. u need to drill them out or use like a slide hammer. looks like ur gonna need a entire new ignition lock.

that is, if thats what i think ur talking about. pretty sure though.

ahha!!!!!! they broke the ignition switch mechanical portion so the steering lock will not not work and used a flat head to turn on the electrical portion of the switch to start the engine. basically, if the electrical portion is still fine (the harness that goes into your fuse box), then on the right hand side of that bolt that looks like it is impossible to get off, use a hammer and chisel to chisel that bolt off. go at an angle to get it to start, once it it loose, you can take that off no problem. check with SMseagren83 if the mechanical portion of the ignition can come separate from the electrical portion. you will save tons of money this way. I know that the 92-95 civics, you have to buy the whole damn electrical and mechanical portion. so check with him because he works in the parts dep. if it does come with just the mechanical portion, then buy just the mechanical portion. it does bolt on to your old electrica portion and comes with new hardware and new key. when you do install the ign. sw., the two bolts that the supply you with to tighten up the switch onto the steering column, keep on tightening those bolts until it snaps off. I'm not joking either, that is how it is. I know, I work on Honda's 5-6 days a week. Not that I fix any of them........j/k. It was a joke. good luck and if you need anymore info, hit US up.

glad u got it figured out man.

yeah it sucks that Honda doesnt allow you to get JUST the lock itself. gotta buy the entire thing. infact i just sold one today for a 92 lx-- he paid 309 after tax. so getting it for $200 which is only like 50 above dealer net is a great deal man.
