    Battery light on/flickering

My batter light flickers on and off and stays on sometimes for prolonged periods. This is a completely stock car.

The batter and alternator were replaced last year with all Honda parts.

I checked the battery and it was reading ~12.5 volts with the car off. With the car on and at idle it read ~14.2 volts. With all accesories on (radio, lights, A/C) the meter reads ~13.2 volts. These readings were all taken at idle and the BATTERY light was ON.

    These numbers seem reasonable right?

I read how a small chip in the alternator may be sending a bad signal. I'm guessing this chip sends some voltage level or something?
I don't believe tension is a problem either since I get good readings on the volt meter.

I have no clue what it can be : ( Anyone got some suggestions?

    Thanks.

Are you throwing any CEL other than the battery light? Sounds like your charging system is working properly. Make sure no messed up wires? Grounds all connected? As I recall there is a ground that goes around there.

The CEL light never comes on or flashes, so I assume there are no errors.

For the wire that is bolted onto the alternator, is that the ground?

I'll check again, but I'm pretty sure I didn't see any ground wire coming off the alternator.

the wire on the back of the alternator is running to your battery, check the green plug on the back of your alternator, if its loose it might turn on that light, also check that wire on the back of the alternator, and where it goes into your under hood fuse block

^^ That also. The green plug comes out a lil then the batrtery light can come on as mentioned. Mine used to do that since the clip wouldnt seat. It would pop out everytime I shifted WOT. I fixed it with a zip tie lol.

So I think I know why my battery light is coming on and off...

I just noticed today that the battery light only comes on during high speeds (usually on the highway)... My guess is that the tension on the belt may not be enough at those high speeds and must be coming off loose or something. So if its loose at those high speeds, the car is going to see a drop in voltage from the alternator.

So I'm going to try and further tighten the alternator belt.

Is there a particular procedure for tightening it?

            Thanks.
