    93 octane on a 87?

Is it bad for the engine if you run one tank of 93 octance or whatever the number is thats normally Plus or Premium.. Is it bad if the car is made for 87? i mean i did it before on the cb7.. i heard that it cleans out the engine a bit because it burns hotter.. not sure if that is true but i thought id check to see if theirs any downside to using it..

thats a good ques., i've being using 93 octane in my car since i got it. never had any problems.. I only use shell premium with z power.. in other words it's "piss water"!! I wish they would sell sunoco 110 gt on the street, thats some good $hit

Well that new shell V-power has cleaning stuff in it, i thought id run a tank of that thru and call it a day.. then go back to the normal 87.. that way it just cleans it out a bit.. but then again ive heard false claims before too.

I really think it would do a minimal amount of cleaning to your engine...but then again you're only paying $3.20 more if you fill your entire tank with it.

I think 93 is better then 87 octane. I myself just found out that. When I first got my 5spd accord. I pump 90 octane and it was okay. then I started to pump 87 to save up some cash. I been pumping 87 for a week and a half. Everytime I floored it in second gear. I can hear like the engine is not getting enought gas, so I knowdice at low RPM my car accleration is slow. Then when it's almost empty. I went and pump 90 octane again and I can't even felt the lagging in low RPM. It acclerate faster. BTW I shift at 2 and a half RPM every gear for normal driving so once I switch the RPM it start back at 1 and a half. So you can actually felt that 87 octane isn't giving you enought of gas or something like that. Also I read about a WRX that been pumping 87 and the shop that dyno the car switch it to 90 octane and the torque increase by 35 lbs. Good stuff there.

i dont know, ive heard people lose power from the 93 because the car isnt burning it rite, because it has to burn HOTTER to combust it

93 is better than 87....yet check this.

octane number (someone correct me..) but basically the higher the number the more you have to burn..the higher compression cars around 10:1:? need 93 octane so they can preform well...and less pinging. their high compression allows them to burn this gas efficiently and correctly.

now lets take our compression for example...we are around wut 8:1:? something like that...our cars were designed for 87 octane, actually 86 back then =).

now the higher the octane number the more effort the engine has to work to burn it...resulting in less power, and more crap left over.

i ran 93 in my car a few times, felt a difference but it felt slow and lesss power. it ran pretty smooth though.

so in my opinion its worthless to go that route ur basically just killing power and i think in my head, having unburt fuel.

check this out, i asked this on a oil board...these guys are really nuts about oil but really know their shit...

Thus far, it looks like nobody has hit it quite right on this subject. The CB7 cars were built to run BEST on 86 octane, which is essentially the low-grade of the early 1990's. The 87 is todays equivalent. If you put 93 octane in an F22Ax, you are:
                1. Wasting money
                2. Putting more crap in your exhaust (and catalytic converter) than needs to be there.
                and
                3. Wasting money.

It's true that a half a tank of mid-grade can be a 'cost effective' way of removing stubborn carbon deposits from the innards of your engine, but the effects are negligable, especially with all the additives and detergents in pump gasoline these days. If you want to keep your engine running clean and well, as well as keep your catalytic converter clean, do this:

Fill your gas tank when it get's down to about a quarter of a tank. The premise being that there is some amount of heavy material in the bottom of most gas tanks in cars as old as the cb7. Filling up frequently minimizes the amount of these heavy materials that make it into the engine and have a chance to foul things up.
Get a gasoline additive, like drygas or marvel mystery oil, and put the suggested dose in every time you change your oil.

Besides, imagine the kind of retard you look like filling up your 1991 Honda Accord sedan with premium gas. In the infamous words of Adam Sandler -- "NOOOOO!!!! THEY'RE ALL GONNA LAUGH AT YOU!!!!"

(i mean no offense if you have engine and compression mods that require you to use the higher octane gas to prevent knock. if you do, kudos, and fill up proudly!)

Accordztech and mojo are right. The higher the octane the harder it is too burn. Thats why high compression engines dont use 87, if it ignites early you get what is often referred to as ping. Putting 93 in a 8:1 compression engine is a waste of money, it is all in the head.

^^^ so ur saying the 87 octane gas is better for our f22's (f20 in my case)??

i think he is saying that, anything that isnt high compression shouldnt use high octane.

there was some stats that someone dynod the car with both gases and had less powe rwitht he differnt fuel.

but yes dont waste ur money.

cool, i will start using 87 now. I fill my tank with about 32.00 of premium (that 2.09/gal). This is when i ride the tank until the yellow light turns on. 87 is about 1.89 i think...

some of the guys give good points. but let me put it like this.

my car loved the 93high octane. if i put the 89 gas and the 93 one<<<< there is a big fucking difference on how my engine runs. and i know. i work as a pizza delivery. i know when the engine is not working right and when its working right.

it all cames to this conclusion. the f22ax notices the gas. in my opinion its better to put the 93. most of u daily drives should see if there is any changes. in my case i did. but my engine had problems at the same time(not because of the gas)

there is one solution. just put the 89 one and be done with it. don't put 87 or 93. lol just put 89.
                            just my opinion(from experience)
are we there yet are we there yet are we there yet

yet when i ran 91 my engine ran smooth..just didnt have that KICK ne more...but ran damn smooth...hahah
