i work at shell and i have to wear an ask me about v power gas thing. its the same octane but has 5x the cleaning additives as normal gasoline. they claim results after the first tankful, but they say that optimal performance gains are seen after 5 tankfuls.
i say just buy fuel injector cleaner and stuff of the sort every so often.

also, dont buy gas if you are at a station that is getting gas themselves at the same time. when the trucks deliver gas it lets the sludge built up at the bottoms of the holding tanks swirl around and get in your tank, and thats no good.

Yup, oil companies use that kind of marketing to make you think that you'll get more power if you buy their high octane fuel. The truth is that you won't make any more power than you would if you were running the grade of octane that your engine was designed for.

Just use some techron additive, and you'll be ok.

I used to run 89 and then 91 when 89 wasn't available, but 87 is fine for the motor and has no difference in performance.

Higher compressions will need a higher octane fuel to prevent knocking.

What kind of stuff is in the bottom of the fuel tank. I run my tank to the yellow light every time. No point in filling up until your empty. But, please inform me of the things that are on the bottom of the tank. I seems to me like there would be nothing but gasoline. Maybe the lining starts to deteriorate or something.

Dont do that because when you go up or down a hill you will suck in the gunk and dirt and the car will stutter for a second. Even though some of the gunk wont get past the second filter your fuel pump can get f'd up. Have you ever changed a fuel pump? I garentee you when you do you want run it low anymore.

Call me crazy, but I read the manual that came with our cars, and it says that the engine requires premium 91 octane gas to run properly.. So technically we are supposed to put in 91? I have noticed my car has more pep with premium.

I totally agree with prez808, oil companies have been very smart about fooling the public that their ordinary Honda's, Ford's, Toyota's, etc will run better with midgrade or premuim gas. The fact your car will perform the best with the gas it was designed to use. One of the major US news networks did a story on how the amount of premuim gas sold in the US is significantly higher then the amount of gas bought for the luxury, and sport cars that actually need premuim gas.

Oil companies make the most profit off of 89 or 91 octane - the mid grade at the pump. Most Lexus, BMW, Mercedes and sports cars REQUIRE 93 becaues the performance engine was designed with higher compressions to run on them. Accords deffinately don't run faster on higher octane, most of it I think is the placebo effect.

Just like when you get a new car part...you think its faster than it is.

maybe the power increase (not alot) could have been the fuel additives doing there jod of cleaning intake vales, fuel lines etc.

tell u the truth the fuel additives that are in gasoline are the minimumist smallest dose avalible.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

My Dad was a chemist for more than 30 years at a well known oil company. He also says that it's all about marketing. There's no need to run a higher knock rated fuel if you don't have the compression that requires it.
