    Screaming for help

last 2 times Ive started my Cb i get this really really loud squeal. it sounds like a dry bearing and once it gets where the temp starts to show on the temp guage. it goes away. i think its the power steering pump bc oil pressure is fine on the engine. but what else could squeal bloodly murder like that? i mean it can be heard 300ft in a brick house... also has only did it when it was 15degree or less

Sounds like it could also be the aux belts - Alternator, powersteering, or A/c belts, check to see if they are tight or need replacing

haha well belts don't normally smoke like that.. but after checking the belts and they are the right tension.. there is a bearing you can replace inside of the actual alternator that can go bad from belts being too tight. Please don't buy a whole new alternator. If the belts are ok and your narrow it down to the pulley in the alternator.. just buy the bearing for 3 bucks and rebuild it.. it's a fairly easy job.

Where the hell did that come from?

To the OP, sounds like you have a squeaky belt. Rub a little dish soap on the underside (pulley side) of your accessory belts. If the squealing goes away, they need to be replaced.

why wouldn't you if you know how to do it? You can buy all the internal parts to an alternator and rebuild it for about $150 less than buying a new or refurbished one. If you know how to do it, do it. It just won't be painted like they do when you give them the core back..
