what size muffler would you use?

i have an apex ws2 catback, but it hangs too low and the muffler got owned by the ground. i want to get a vibrant performance muffler and have if welded onto the apex piping thats left but it comes in inlet sizes of 2.25 or 2.5 and the apex piping i have is listed at 2.36 inches or somethign like that.
suggestions/opinions wanted

2.25 is a good size unless you plan on modding it, then I would get 2.5.
