    Grounds!!!!!

This is just a thread for people to share ideas and for me to explane my opinion on how important grounds on your car really are. i have a 92 lx f22a1 i did a timing belt and water pump about 3 years ago in my g-ma's garage and i tightend the crank bolt shade tree style, screw driver on the fly wheel and a 19mm on a breaker bar. anywho about 2 to 4 months ago it backed its self out and i jumped timing and bent my valves. to get to the point im a certified tech now and i did a head job at the shop i work at. i did everything possible while it was ripped apart new valves springs retainers and so on and so forth. the one thing i completly forgot about and just skipped over, GROUNDS. to make a long story short my car was running like shit and wanted to die every time i got to a lite, i left it at the shop and started working on it took me 2 months to relize what it was. the night befor last i was working on it and i turned around to my tool cart and when i turned back to my car it was smoking. the throttle cable was red hot and the rubber aroung it was melting, i was baffled and everyone else in the shop was too. basically my eletrical system had nowhere to get a good ground so it used my throttle cable. i shorted out my oil sending unit and 02 sensor somehow. after 2-3 good body grounds and a new (honda) throttle cable she runs like a champ. soon to come is an after market grounding system thru hks or someone of that stature. anyway the moral to this stroy is, 1-never underestimate the small things when it comes to your car, 2- GROUNDS ARE VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT. hope we can all learn from my mistake because sure as hell have.

    sincerly, 92Inspire
    have a good weekend everyone.

lol you dont have to be a "tuner" to know that a ground is important. They are important bottom line for any sort of person working on a car or anyone that knows anything about a car. Good thing I did not read that.

sun auto grounds are great, I've installed them after the ground cable from the battery to the passengers side, came loose, and I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't start... scared the living piss out of me tho, and all of that just cause of one ground...Crazy

Well, most of what you've spouted in the past WAS wrong. However, I was pointing out that you changed. My comment really wasn't directed at you anyhows, more so towards wed3k, who was just whoring.

if any of you are worried that you might have a problem with this just measure the voltage between the frame, - battery post, and engine block. if you have a bad ground then you should see a voltage present. you could also do this with different parts of your motor and your transmission to make sure everything is good. This test is worthless unless your car is running and it would probably be a good idea to turn on as many electronic devices as possible. My multi meeter can only read down to tenths of an ohm. but it can measure thousandths of a volt. If you run 20 amps through a bad ground that has a resistance of .05 ohms, which is smaller than my reader can measure, then you will experiance a 1 volt drop across the ground. Get the idea?

I've tracked down many electrical problems at the shop due to a bad ground, don't ever remove a ground strap no matter how small/unneeded you think it is!

Good thread for those not so knowledgeable in the electrical field!

glad i came thru and read this. for i didn't really know what grounds can do for a car. i figured, if i don't touch nothing that i don't know nothing about, then it will be okay. i am having vtec problem so i will run down my grounds to see if its that simple. would be nice if it was bad grounds considering what i checked thus far.

                            That Made me LOL.

I personally never realized how important grounds are untill i swapped and tucked my car. I think i was trying to figure out for like 2 hours why my car wouldnt crank. Then i decided to just make a bunch of my own.
