Also, a variation on this....I don't know how well clamping that air filter coupler to the stock rubber intake tube holds up. Seems like it would allow air/dirt to leak in around the coupler or something.

What I did was buy a 6" tube from Schucks, you can use PVC pipe as well. But this was over in the "rice" section. Anyways...just a piece of plastic tube, you use this shit to make your own "custom intake" it says. Put one end in the stock rubber intake tube, clamp it with the stock clamp. Put the filter over the other end of the tube, clamp it. Presto, air tight. I might end up toying around with it later on and see if I can get the filter behind the bumper...wonder if that little pipe is long enough.

      What are you talking about?

Exactly what I described, IS AIR TIGHT. The air filter comes with a RING that you put on the tubing, that mates perfectly to the air filter. Then you tighten it till the ring is tightened all the way down. Now if you dont tighten it, sure air and dirt can get past it, but that would just be stupid

Mines been fine, gas mileage is 2mpg gain so far.

Great DIY, this will probably net at least 60% power gain of a "mainstream" short-ram will but for much less cost!

Just wanted to add for anyone doing this......stay away from K&N. They flow very well but leave a coating of oil throughout your intake system. Also while I had my K&N installed, my oil analysis was showing higher than normal levels of silicon (dirt) which was coming through the filter (CAI).

I did some research and the Apexi dryflow outperforms K&N in both filtration and flow because of it's design. It's a dry filter so no oil to coat the intake. I have yet to turn in another oil analysis to confirm that my silicon levels are back down, but my intake seems cleaner!

first time I heard my accord with a filter it about made jump out of the seat. I was like DID YOU HEAR THAT!?. It wasnt even a good filter, just a 91 prelude stock filter left over from a oil change on this chickc car.

I didnt use anything to cover anything lol

I wanted MPG's, therefore the hotter the air, the better for me, leaner fuel mixture.

If you wanted to extend it, go to autozone into the "RACING SECTION" and grab a 3" inlet that bends 60 or 90 degrees.

Its a neat little mod that took my highway mileage from 28 to roughly 34 as best I can calculate. Added aprox 2-3mpg in the city also.

I drive really slow and like an old man, my car got excited when I hit 3000rpm on the interstate the other day. Thats the first time she's been on the interstate in a long long time

Since nobody answered , i decided to put a heat bandage around the hose and tight it with a tyrap .

Sounds great, I just left mine alone, no problems so far in 2-3 months.

I did this on mine cause the rad hose looked a bit scratched ! probably depends of the filter ...
