    ENG: Battery Servicing

    Battery Servicing

*******THIS DIY IS FOR NOOBS AND GIRLS THAT DONT KNOW HOW TO DO THIS**********

Have you ever gone to start your car and it wont cut on the lughts wont llight up and it wont do a thing

well there could be a few things wrong

im going to talk about the most common

    Battery Corrosion

battery corrosion is that crap you get usually on your + terminal its green blue and looks weird

well that can prevent your car from starting turninging over or in this case even lighting up the dash board

here is how to fix it

first open your door and pop your hood

    now open your hood

and take a look at your battery

now you are going to want to take off the battery hook ups (you might need some tools, basic pliers and adjustable wrench will do)

now you are going to want to take a wire brush and brush off the corrosion on both battery terminals even if there is none

and the wires for the car brush them down too, inside and out

now replace the car wires and tighten them down and replace the red positive cover if you have it

    close the hood

    and get in the car

and try to start or turn the car on

Just to add to this - If you have a battery where the inspection holes can be removed - Like the OP's second pic.

    Check the electrolyte levels.
If they are low top them up with distilled water.

Car Safety / General Servicing Checks --------Basic suspension checks

    My 5.7 LS1 Holden Ute

A "Finished" project car is never finished until its been sold.

If at first you don't succeed, Try again. Don't give up too easily, persistance pays off in the end.

modern batteries are maintenance free adding distilled water could do more harm then good and you're opening yourself up to get injured.

Opening a sealed battery (maintenance free) would be stupid.
Refilling an open top battery (as per the OP's picture) is perfectly fine.

it also helps to add a conductive / non corrosive lubricant example, anti seize or Vaseline.

( the anti corrosion sprays/gels get messy and believe it or not have either promoted corrosion or non conductivity more so than w.o such products. so i stay away from those anti corrosion sprays/gels personally )
