Thanks for the info. I'm in NYC so I'll have it shipped to me, hopefully in a moveable cart. You were probably able to walk about hmotorsonline's place and pick the motor you want right, ie, the one in best condition? If I buy one online, I'll probably get a random one.

Dang timmy That is crazy another H22 in cali. Your car is so sick with the 5 lug. You inspire me to go 5lug as well. I am glad you are going h22 and am sure you will have fun with it. i can't wait to get another socal meet to see your car.

im flabberghasted!! Timmy's got an H22!!

after some careful lifting the motor comes out in all of its dirt-riddled glory. because my driver’s side axle inner boot tore there was grease all over the corner of the oil pan to the block. Fluid spilled out as the motor tilted over. the power steering fluid came gushing out of the VSS lines and coolant leaked from the heater core lines. fuel trickled out of the fuel rail as well.
I should comission you to write a book. well written caption!

i love your car even more now!!

i97supratti- there are shops in NYC that sell motors. sparkle just picked up a Type-S from one of them...

But yea, timmy, nice work man!!!! Was your car originally auto, and if so did you do the auto-manual swap as well? Good luck, and I wish you and your new motor many awesome 2nd gear shift chirps and VTEC engagements! The write up was pretty awesome too...

thanks again fellas for the complements! there are some minor problems right now but i'll document that when i write the next half. as for the motor, it was the only LSD equipped motor they has so i had no choice. usually you can pick from their inventory (which is a LOT, even K-series type-Rs). steve had it already cleaned and ready when we got there. they were compression testing motors when i walked in so that's a good sign. they stamp every motor and tranny after they test it. i'll take a pic soon.

i know it's about time i've done this. my experience is unforgetable and i wanted to share it with the community that kept me in the cb-scene. driving thoughts, problems, encounters, and conclusions will follow shortly .

question: will it pass smog? if not what would you need to do to have it pass?

It will pass smog, you might have to go to the Cali Smog Ref, but if all your emissions are there, you have good chance of passing. Just make sure your cat is hot, or heck get a illegal smog and not worry about it. Most h22a's if done right look stock in the CB7 Engine Bay. Total sleeper Timmy esp with the bike rack!!

i believe if you add an air boost valve to the intake manifold and add a vacuum solenoid between the FPR and the intake manifold, you can pass smog! that's the only difference i've seen beside maybe the ECU mapping. i'll eventually try and have the BAR (board of air resources) pass the motor to be recognized as a legal swap in california.

i prolly won't update this journal until next week as i'm leaving town this weekend. here is a pic to hold you guys over til then. some idiot jumped in my engine bay and decided to pose .
