    wtfisafleek : 1992 Accord LX

What you are seeing is not an optical illusion or a problem with your brain, I did in fact buy another grey Accord for the princely sum of $600. This one is a '92, color NH561M or charcoal grey pearl. My '91 in the background is NH531M, or charcoal granite metallic.

They're both LXs, but this one is a 5 speed! I've wanted one of these for a long time, and it runs very well, unlike my '91 when I first got it. It feels like the clutch needs flushing and bleeding, and the brakes need some attention.

    What's funny is the mileage:

It's got quite a bit more miles on it than my '91, but you can tell this one was taken care of waaaay better (May, 2020: not really way better, but kinda. You'll see). While it's dirty and has quite a few of the same cosmetic issues my '91 had/has, this one goes down the road like an arrow. So much so that I'm thoroughly convinced now that my '91 needs an appointment with the frame machine. I don't think there's any way around it.

I'll post some more pics later

Here's what it needs as of now that I've observed. This list is gonna grow, but likely not by much:
    windshield
    tires
    headlight bulb
A/C is out (I expected it; this is Texas after all)
    door handles; they're all flaking
    power steering lines
    pedal pads
    shifter boot redo
    radio antenna
    trunk floor card

You're up to two; I'll be down to just Ruby on Tuesday - accepted an offer on my 92 EX today.

Which PS lines do you need?

Are you talking about the chrome flaking on the interior door handles? The chrome handles are identical front and rear and can be replaced if the surrounds are in good condition (and you can't find surrounds of the right color).

http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=206194 Looks like I need to update the pictures.

Very cool. Happy you got yourself a manual.
Now if you get a third some may think you have a problem, lol. I personally wouldn't think ill of you.
Is it the shift knob clips that are broken or is it the boot retainer?
I may have my old shift knob and retainer laying around. I'll take a look for you.
Also, for the windshield Faith Auto Glass down on Second Ave next to PNP does a good job and its like $125 total installed!
I had both the coupe and sedans replaced there. No cracks they were just etched pretty bad from dirt and wiper blades.
Be looking forward to seeing you work some magic with it.
      Later.

Hey Paul, no I never considered doing that! I may have to, IIRC the grey ones are hard to find even online. As far as the lines go, I'm pretty sure I need the one that goes over the top of the motor for sure, but I need to inspect the other before taking any action. There's a hydraulic line place not too far from me that can recrimp my fittings on new hose for a really good price, so I'll be taking my hoses there.

Ed, I'll have to pay that windshield place a visit, thanks for the tip. As for my shift knob, it's very worn looking, but the tabs are good. I'll probably replace it due to the wear. The little collar on the other hand has lost the chrome that was on it and is just bare yellow plastic now, so I need a new one. If yours looks good I'll take it.

I found a very easy repair for the chrome collar for the shift boot - I simply covered it with electrical tape when I installed my custom boot, it matches the black of the OEM shift knob.

I may just go the refinishing route with my piece too. After all, any other ones I find are probably just as bad a shape. HOWEVER....the boot collar seems to very closely resemble the boot collar from my '10 Accord. I replaced the boot from that one too and remember the knob attaching in an almost identical way.

I started out the refinishing route, but the chrome coating was peeling off and very difficult to remove the rest of it for a good surface to which to apply a new coating. It also seemed a bit wasteful to buy a whole can of chrome spray just to try to paint this collar. The tape was simple, cost me nothing, and blends with the knob very well.

Sweet new ride bro. It’s still got potential. Gray on gray is a good combo. If your 91 is not fixable just transfer all of the good stuff to the 92.

I think the '91 is fixable. Besides, all the "good stuff" I put on it isn't easily transferrable, e.g. I'm not putting those damn auto-retract seatbelt seats in my '92! And my carpet install was subpar, so I won't be moving that over.

That said, Dreamability did give me some 6-spokes and an airbox, plus I've got a bunch of parts that should be here later this week, so it shouldn't take too long to get this one on the road reliably.

Did I mention it needs tires? Because these are horrible.

So I bought a distributor seal kit, and got to disassembling mine. This is what I found inside:

Now given, I did a wee bit of tugging on the wires before I figured out the magnets at the bottom needed to be undone, but nothing excessive. All the rubber inside was very hard and would crumble at the slightest squeeze. So I'm looking for another.

Coolant has been drained; thermostat and the little triangular o-ring at the front water neck has been renewed. The long rad hose has been changed, waiting on the short one.

Since I'm doing a lot of waiting on parts, I took the opportunity to drop off some six-spokes at the powdercoaters. They took off n thousandths to reface them, then cleared. I think they look fantastic. New tires have been mounted since I picked them up.

Here's where it gets ugly. New tie rods and halfshafts are in order, as well as at least one brake caliper. It's boot is also split pretty bad, and has been that way for a while from what I can tell. Just like my '91, one of the caliper bolts just spins when I try to take it out and it will not release from it's bracket. Oddly, the driver's side pads were worn down to the warning pin, while the passenger side had quite a bit more meat left. Very weird.

Here's the driver's side halfshaft. This thing broke apart in two pieces after I pried it from the trans:

Tie rod, driver's side (boot looks like it was replaced before):

Passenger's side, after removing the halfshaft. It's so messy I can't tell what's been leaking from where.

Yes it is lol. As I'm looking over everything, it's becoming even more obvious to me why these are such great cars. They take enormous amounts of neglect and just keep on going.

Case in point: the brakes. The caliper on the driver's side was seized to it's bracket and I can only assume it was not backing off of it's pad properly after the brakes had been applied OR possibly it's pads were more worn down compared to the other caliper because one of its mounting bolts was backed out two full turns. It was not tight AT ALL. That may have been keeping that caliper from staying primed in the proper position to apply the pad to the disc. A very simple problem that could've been fixed very early on had the PO just had some basic brake maintenance done every now and again. Frankly they're lucky we're in Texas. This car wouldn't have made it this long in Ohio or New York.

With everything I've found, it's amazing to me that it even started up, let alone went down the road as straight and drama-free as it did. If the brakes were that neglected, how's the rest of the car? Oh well you've seen the worst of it. The interior is pretty nice

I've got a Redline leather shift boot, a new Honda shift knob, and a door handle on the way to spruce it up a bit. Oh and I fixed the glove box shock

Very nice my friend. Definitely can trust your gonna piece her back together right.
I'm really happy you took those wheels off me, especially after the amazing refurb job you had done to them.
Way better than them just sitting in my back yard like they did for two years!

Ok, now that boot is really nice! I'm already on their website, lol.

Just a note on the shift boot. I do have a slight complaint on it. The opening is sewn up way to small on the neck, so that I had to cut maybe a half inch off before I could squeeze the collar through and fold it back on itself after zip tying it off. The boot I purchased for my '11 Accord was the same way.

If anyone out there plans on doing one of these, here's a little tip. There is a wire that goes through the base of the stock vinyl boot that helps the metal bracket hold the boot to the console. Cut away the stock boot and save this wire. I cut mine into pieces to fish it into my Redline boot to serve the same function. It was hard enough to get it to fit between the bracket and the console given it's larger thickness compared to the stock vinyl.

I thought the directions on the website were a little lacking in detail, but I got it done. Edgar, if you end up getting one let me know and I can help with getting it installed.

Boot looks good; I wish I had researched a little more before I had one custom made locally (more $). Although they put the wire in it and it fit over the bezel without modification. I see you went the "black" look for the bezel.
