    Manual steering rack?

Hey Dudes, I think I'm wanting to ditch power steering. What's the best way to do it? I don't want to be pushing fluid around, making it harder to turn the wheel.
I've heard from someone that you can mod the rack so that is all flows freely, something about drilling out a piston?.....

My steering rack is damaged and needs to be replaced, and my PS lines and pump are all leaky and need to be replaced. So I wanna try manual.

Here's the first one that shows up in the DIY: Suspension section. http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=164993

There is a very handy index stickied at the top of the DIY sections.

lol i hate when you paraphrase what i say

this about sums it up: http://www.preludepower.com/forums/s...9&postcount=26

the "piston" i referred to was the power cylinder seal, instead of deleting it, id perforate it, it might help keep the rack aligned in the tube, i still need to get a rack and pull it apart to see what mods to do along with the basic gutting of the valve body, im trying to avoid the play that happens when everything is removed people complain about

This thread has a fair amount of detail about how to disassemble/reassemble the rack for reference: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=207857

The best method I've seen to remove all the play is to cut a plate that bolts on in place of the valve body and then drill an interference hole that the pin from the shaft fits into tightly. This fully removes all play. I've seen it referenced in a civic thread somewhere but I can't find it now. Was a long time ago I ran across it. The other method will give just a touch of play, don't delete the 4 way valve as it takes up most of the play in the rack when left in.

I've also been wondering if you can use the EPS from the 8th gen Civic Si. Seems to have been done a few times in the Civic world. This is also a quicker rack.

This. I've read every article over the years and this is the best one I've heard. Peole like to keep the rack lubed for smooth gear engagement I believe, and doing this would make it act like a shock? It would be interesting to try. I also remember reading about a certain model of civic manual rack that will work with our cars.
