Google Earth Street Views are sideways shots from satellites, just like the overhead shots, but at an angle.

A car drives around and records a 360 picture. That's how it gets its pictures...

Ah, they've changed it then. I had been told that it was going to be done through the satellite side imaging back when it was all beta. Thanks for correcting me. Keeps me from looking (any more) like an idiot.

It's only in certain areas. Just go to the link in the original post and you'll be able to see all of the streets available.

Or, just go to Google, and type in Google Street View and it'll take you to it.

in any of the street views, you can just rotate it all the way down and see the car and the camera mounting apparatus..
