In theory. In practice a lot of judges don't know the difference between things.

Example is taken from what I've seen. I'm sure every show is different.

The guy next to you with Bride/Recaro/Nice seats, original paint in immaculate condition, and quality suspension setup would score less points.

the guy above gets more points simply for having more mods and custom work. But which would you rather have, a quality build with clean paint or a lot of custom work that doesn't flow or look good together.

(For the record I'm not saying any cars in discussion fit this example)

In my opinion the top car would win the show while the bottom (would be on it's way) to a mag and be something I actually desired..
If the point of the category is to have all that crap in the car, then the guy with the good stuff isn't going to be competing in that class. In doughboy's case, the other cars he competes against are similar to his. A wildly done custom car.
The guy with the nice original paint, the big money suspension and the bride seats isn't going to compete in the wild class. If the show is too small for custom classes such as wild, shoddy workmanship and cheap parts will never win over craftsmanship and quality goods.
I've never been to a show where there was such obvious idiocy on the judges panel. True enthusiasts are not going to give the top car the points just because they have crap in their car.
I personally would rather have a clean build, but it doesn't lessen my appreciation of a wildly done car. It's just not an extension of my personality. I don't write poetry like Shelley or Keats or cummings or Thurber, it doesn't mean I don't think they should get recognized for their work, or that I'm going to claim their awards don't mean anything.

I missed the HIN reference. HIN is too ricey for me. I can appreciate the work, but most of it is too much flash. I think I'd take shit off my car if it was winning HIN competitions. I always associate that style vehicle with FnF guys.

What bugs me is that it comes down to points. And that a lot of judges don't know shit.

Plus you're competing against well... anything. Who knows the relative meaning of the trophy.

It depends on your style. The top honda's looked like the ones straight out of honda tuning. The whole JDM styling.

I didn't see many ricey cars there. Sure it's a mix. But there is a JDM class and a wild class.

thats true, but if its an established show, they are supposed to have judges for each class,I only judge hondas when I've been asked to judge a show,I also do minitrucks because of the club I'm in I work on them and know them.See thats the problem you get different groups putting on shows they pick judges who know nothing about half the vehicles there.About 15 years ago the VA NC minitruck/sportcompact council(reps from all the clubs in those 2 states) got together and setup guidelines for judging, they made a point that any sshow put on would use the judging sheet that they cam up with, and that only people with knowledge of each class would judge that particular class.LIke this weekend I'm going to SLAMSESSION THIS show is in its 16th year, they have 100 classes, they have specific judges for each class, now those 100 classe are the major classes broken down, hondas are broken down into certain years and then accords, civic, thn other hondas then mild and wild,so for example they got 5 guys who know hondas judging all those classes together, each man looks over the car gives his opinion and they decide on one score for each of the categories. HIN doesnt do that.

Interesting. And true. I'm still not a fan, but this makes more sense. I doubt all shows have knowledgeable judges though.

Not seeing your car in person visualpoet, just from pics, your body would score pretty good on my judges sheet, your trunk would to because of the way you did your stereo,Now your engine looks good, but if you go to autozone or advance and get those little brass and stainless detail brushes and brush all that exposed spotty aluminum on you engine your engine points would definitely go up if you were to show again.Brushing with those brushe wil refresh it,give it a little luster

holy fuck thats a lot of words!

i think the real bottom line here is...if you show, show to the best of your ability. if not, stfu

i see tons of cars i dislike, and then quickly forget about them...as im sure plenty of people do to mine.

I know, I know. I've been lazy and remiss about detailing the aluminum. I need to get out there and sand and paint some pieces as well. I did actually go looking for my brass brushes, but I have no idea where they are in the garage and the newbie's got chicken pox and just wanted held all last week, so I said to hell with it. I keep procrastinating because I'm going to do the IM swap, the cam and then repaint the VC and SRI, maybe the plenum as well... I'll have to play with CS3 and see if I like it painted or aluminum. It's stripped and smoothed past the casting texture, but not high shine polished now, sitting on the shelf. The body looks okay, but the rear 1/4 rust is going to get repaired soon or it's going to get out of hand. The trunk is going to get redone soon too. Either the JL bandpass or a sub on each side with the bottle in the center (if the wife ever tells me I can have the money to but it. The whole things arranged, she's just taking her sweet time checking finances.)
