For me nvidia has always been more compatible than ati. For one, if you use linux, there is a ton of options for you and your box. You can get nvidia drivers from nvidia! (w00t) and get comparable, hopefully better, fps than windows. On the other hand, the ati community is outraged at ati for not producing decent, or for some any, drivers. Some games work better with ati, some work better with nvidia. But I have never had a problem with any of my nvidia cards.
It's clear that when we talk about the new GPU architectures, Nvidia "wins" Doom 3 by quite a healthy margin. Frame rates for last-generation cards are much closer, with Nvidia a few frames ahead. Even the recently released sneak preview of Catalyst 4.9 drivers doesn't do much to put ATI back in the running.

and was a benchmark of doom3 using the latest of what nvidia and ati had to offer. In the end you're the one paying for it, so it's up to you, if you've had success using ati's I would suggest you keep buying ati, and vice versa.

on the stairs, she grabs my arm, says whats up,
where you been, is something wrong?
i try to just smile, and say everything’s fine.

SE is considerably slower than Pro, and XT is faster than Pro but the 9600 series is pretty good for the price, i have one, the Pro that is

nvidia is a good company, but to me, benchmarks don't mean anything, they use the most advanced computers and none of the benchmarks simulate what most computer users have.. a mid-level or lower budget computer. the only benchmark that's worth considering is playing the actual game and making the adjustments to get more fps
