    Interview questions

Just got a call from Best Buy for an interview next Monday. 2 Questions:
    1. Should I wear a full suit? It seems like overkill
1.5 If no suit, I was gonna wear a nice shirt, sweatshirt in the car, leave sweatshirt in car and run inside. It's COLD here!
    2. I'm definitely bringing my A+ cert. I have lots of other less impressive certs. Should I bring them? I don't think it would hurt

    Any other advice?
Mods: If you just deleted this then I'm sorry. My internet had a hiccup and when it came back this post wasn't here.

do not ask about the pay , makes you look needy.

A man that keeps looking back can't see whats in front of him.

agreed. that is exactly what i wore when i got a job at best buy; shined black leather shoes, black socks (obviously), nice black dress pants, black belt, oxford-style long-sleeve button up, and a nice tie that goes well with it.

as for your certs, i'd bring them all in in a nice folder (i use a black leather bound folder with a writing pad that i got when i had my eagle scout ceremony) along with a couple copies of your resume (on nice paper, not crappy library-spec printer paper). not only will the manager have a chance to see them all and you can prove that you have them, the nice folder also gives an impression of professionalism and preparedness.

for the interview itself, have confidence in yourself and your skills, but dont appear cocky. have a good sense of humor and maybe throw in a joke to make him remember you, but dont say ANYTHING that may be in poor taste or off-color.

Take your resume with you. Don't say "I can't" or "no". If unsure, reply in a statement that you can learn. Employers look for people who will become more efficient in the long run and not someone who will just meet their lowest expectations.

learn about the company before you go in. also be prepared to answer questions like, "so how will you contribute to this company?" or "why did you choose best buy to apply at?", etc.

also if they sometimes ask for your best assets, dont sound too confident. you work well alone and with teams. you work well supervised and unsupervised. stuff like that. good luck!

I can't say I agree with all the advice given here. Perhaps it's just been so many years since I've interviewed for a non-professional job, who knows, but here's my two cents.

Wear the suit. It's an interview, look your best. If your best clothes is a button-up and tie, wear it. If you have a suit, wear it.

Unless you're applying for the geek squad position, I don't see how they're relevant to a sales position. It could be an interesting conversation point, so don't hesitate to mention it if the subject comes up. Having said that, bring the certs but don't present them unless asked. It could distract from other more pertinent information.

Talking about money is okay in the interview. You are not applying for a union job so you actually have the right to negotiate your own salary, not that you will be able to. Ask them about compensation. If they don't want to talk about it, then its probably not wise to press the issue, but be ready to be unpleasantly shocked when you do find out what it is. In my experience, the employers that avoid discussing pay have the worst compensation.

Good luck, shave, brush your hair and teeth, shower, and DON'T SHOW UP LATE.

                        This.

                        BUT

NEVER ASK ABOUT PAY on the first interview.

                        It is rude.

Usually they will bring it up.

If they dont wait until a job offer is made, then you can discuss it and decide if it is for you.

                        And ALWAYS wear a suit.

The saying goes, "you can never be to dressed up but you can be to dressed down".

Going for a 2nd interview today, bout to don my suit.

                          I wouldn't wear a suit. I wouldn't hesitate to ask about pay.

I'd dress in a shirt and tie. I'd be confident, attentive, and on time. Firm handshake, eye contact, answer all questions briefly and accurately.

this is best buy. nothing fancy. the guy hiring you will probably be some kid 2 or 3 years older than you. wear a full suit to a job interview there and hes going to think 'this kid is a dork!' He'll think mommy dressed you.
these places also have a regular pay scale. youre not going to be negotiating your pay. chances are the guy doing the interview wont even be the one to make that call. any change in pay is usually approved through corporate.

wear a shirt and tie. bring a plain manilla folder with your resume and any other paperwork they may wish to see. mention your certification if it seems applicable, but dont go waving it around. if they want to see it they will ask. have it handy. otherwise you look like a naive kid again.

You'd only look like mommy dressed you if you don't know how to properly wear a suit.

So if two people interview and you wear the suit and the other kid says, "its best buy ill wear a button down shirt with a tie" who looks better?

Wearing a suit no matter what the job says you take your appearance seriously and if you took the effort to wear a suit then it speaks volumes about you.

Now I know its only best buy and frankly you could deff get the job wearing just a shirt and tie but I wouldn't chance it.

Always look your best. People on here just don't take much pride in themsevles it seems.
