    Major computer issue...

Ok, my computer just went down. It won't start back up. It loads everything until it gets to the Windows screen... Then a blue screen flashes (too fast to read) and the process starts over again. I need to get back into it... Or all my work files are lost. Like a dumbass, I loaned my external backup to a friend.

There's not much I can add... That's all it does. Ive tried safe mode, last known working configuration, etc... Nothing works.

there's the possibility that you might have to go into the computer BIOS and underclock the processor. That's just a suggestion, i dont know what the problem COULD be but that sometimes helps. Is there a start-up screen that lets you go to the BIOS?

Try Safe mode and then System restore from last check point, should still save your files.

Yeah, I can get that far at least.

It just started up. Doesn't seem happy, but I'm backing up all I can to an 8gb USB drive... At least I can save the most important files! Thankfully all the important cb7tuner stuff is on the server, and pandemic keeps a forum backup offsite as well.

Yes, I did safe mode and system restore. Running xp. Sp3 I think.

                How are you posting!?!?! ZOMBIE?

You need to figure out what the blue screen is saying. I'm on 7 now, so this is paraphrasing:
Start, right click my computer, properties.
                Advanced tab, Startup and recovery.
Uncheck automatically restart, and make sure it's writing an error file some where.
                Mine says "%SystemRoot%\MEMORY.DMP"
So, if 7 crashed I'd see a crash file in C root or in C/windows.

Any recent changes? Drivers, programs, hardware, updates?

Updates are your best bet. Done from safe mode with networking.

iPhone... Which is why my posts are abnormally short and choppy.
I've always wondered how to do that. My netbook randomly crashes too, and being unable to read that bsod irritates the hell out of me.

Best bet, and what I usually do:
Uncheck restart immediately. Take a cell phone pic
That way you don't have to search for the file.

I updated firefox and plugged in my printer (previously installed). Those are the only things I did differently. the issue began when firefox froze... Then everything else froze. I restarted, and boom.

Working now, but slow... And I have that error mentioned abovv

I use Google EXTENSIVELY when trouble shooting computers. Do you know about task manager? Go to the processes tab and see what using resources. Be aware that if you force close the wrong process, your computer will crash.

Yeah, I do that often. That's actually what I did to crash everything! I quit Firefox (and even though it disappeared from the screen and the task manager, the episode of American Dad that I was watching kept playing audio...)

I'm back on the desktop now, though deliriously tired... I'll have to mess with it in the morning. All important work files have been backed up. I won't get fired or audited... so I'm safe!

Thanks for your help, guys. I'll play with it more tomorrow and see if there's anything else that jumps out at me. I'm running virus/malware scans now (just got a weird popup... I don't get popups, and this site is the only one I'm viewing!) I don't think it's a high-level software issue... but who knows!

Sounds like something malware related that you might have got from one of those no good anime sites you frequent lol.

Glad you got it all sorted out.

If you have a Windows cd, you can reboot with it in and repair the windows installation...that should write over any bad files with good copies.
