New job!

So, mid November I was let go from my job, and was still searching for work when the site went down.

As of December 19, I've been working as a detailer at the Mitsubishi Dealership.

Wait, hang on....Mitsubishi...didn't I used to work there in sales back in the summer, and then get fired for selling my own car?

Yes.

And he hired me back.

Absolutely love the job. I'm happy, boss is happy. Forum is back. Everything is good.

Surprisingly, it's not awkward working with him at all. When he let me go, I left respectfully and on good terms with him.

The way I landed this job is quite funny.

I was waiting for my unemployment claim to be processed, and then they phoned me and said they they did not have my Record of Employment on file from the dealer, and cannot process my claim until I get it to them.

I happened to be searching for jobs online at the same time they phoned, and I came across an ad for him needing a detailer.

I decided I'd drive down to the dealer and see him. I walked in and he was surprised me to see me, and greeted me like an old friend.

I told him that I needed my ROE because unemployment phoned and asked for it, and then I also mentioned that I saw the detailer ad.

This was on a Thursday afternoon, and he says "So you need a job huh? My detailer just quit yesterday. You want to start Monday 8am then?"

Since then, I've been working, detailing for him. It's only $12/hr to start, but the money isn't terrible because I really enjoy the work.

Well, I haven't worked for less than $12/hr since like 2006. I can live on $12/hr no problem if I live at home, but now this is a $1.50/hr less than what I was making at my last job and having trouble paying bills.

The Dodge dealership here was starting their detailers at $15/hr.

I could live on 12 an hour if I seriously cut back on luxuries, and cooked at home instead of eating out. Better than being unemployed, for sure!



And that FD is beautiful. It's so rare to see one like that... original owner, bone stock, low mileage... So many of them are modified to hell these days. I have a deep love for unmolested RX-7s. They may be slower than their heavily modified brethren, but it's such a pure sports car. I think Mazda made a damn near perfect product with those cars. One that captured exactly what they were going for (not perfect in comparison to all other cars... just perfect in the sense that they made no compromises in their design.)

In Alberta 12 dollars an hour is pretty much as low as your ever gonna get paid, but with the cost of living its not that much.
