I have a bit of training dealing with cisco propriatary switches and protocols (iEGP/EGP/IGP, etc) in regards to network management and routing. I never went any further though, pretty deep stuff.

My interview for a systems developer with Cisco was, bar-none, the worst interview experience I've ever had.

I walked in and, after handshakes and introductions, they immediately began 45 minutes of question/answer in protocol theory, ending with a firm, "Thank you and good luck."

Cisco has some great people, I'm sure, but in my eyes they are the most impersonal company on the face of the Earth.

A friend of mine has been working for Cisco for several years now, and they won't give him a raise.

Well I'm sure you've read their curriculum, I would say thats a good primer for how their company is run. ugh. My company requires CompTIA certs so that is what I'm working on building up.

I'd move on to the next job. Hell I just got a 2% raise for "Meeting expectations" and they gave me a promotion and huge raise 3 months ago.
