    Tax returns

What's a reasonable amount of time to wait for your e-filed return to come before getting worried? Been almost 2.5 weeks and the "where's my refund" can't seem to find anything.

Already got an email from turbo tax a day after fileing that it was accepted.
    wat?

Go to IRS.gov and click on "Where's My refund" follow the instructions and it will tell you the progress of your return and what the ETA of the refund will be. Usually you will get the refund the day it tells you that you will, unless you did not do direct deposit, then snail mail WILL take longer.

Just tried it, works just fine.

You will need a few peices of data from the tax return you just filled. Mostly just your filing status, refund amount and your social security number.

          When did you file?

I filed on 2/3, accepted 2/4 and have all the same issues you say (no refund, no "Where's My Refund" status, etc, etc).

I've ventured onto the TurboTax discussion forum and found many members having the same issues.

The general consensus is that it'll show up the first week of March, but who knows.

I got mine two weeks later and i also e-filed with turbotax. I think because it was President's Day thats why you don't have your return yet.

The IRS is holding some tax returns a lil longer due to an increase in TR frauds stemming from last year. People were filing other peoples taxes somehow which started a huge prob. My mom had to deal with it because someone was claiming my lil sisters SS# as a dependent which is impossible. Alot of the scammers were filing the taxes early so when the rightly person filed they were already shit outta luck. For all those reasons the IRS is being quite vigilant and is slowing down processing time to ensure that everything is correct.

That sucks about your little sister, and yes people do steal their SSN's, however, the IRS is not holding up your tax return because of fraud from last year.
The whole process of filing your tax return is all automated (Unless you paper file your return, then someone will actually enter your return by hand). Basically when you e-file your tax return, the IRS system checks the math on it, makes sure your SSN is not used twice, then pretty much sends you your refund or requests your payment. Then in the summer/fall after the IRS has loaded all the W2/1099's that were filled with you SSN, they do, what accountants call, "matching". They match what is on your return with what is on W2's/1099s. If they are different, then you get a CP2000 tax notice, which is a matching IRS letter(Again, computer generated). If they are correct, you do not hear a thing. Then usually later after a year, if your return is what they call a "red flag" return, it is selected and reviewed by a real person (Strange I know) and if the numbers do not look right, then you get audited.

The IRS will not hold up your refund based on prior years fraud problems.
