    George Zimmerman

Rueters Investigation went over Zimmerman's life in bullet points lol, not here to start a fight, just to inform.

    •Zimmerman grew up in a mixed-race household
•He was an altar boy at his Caltholic church from age 7-17
    •He is bilingual
•After he finished high school, he studied for and got an insurance license
•In 2004, Zimmerman and a black friend opened an Allstate insurance office (which soon failed)
•Zimmerman’s 2005 arrest for “resisting arrest, violence, and battery of an officer” occurred after he shoved an under-cover alcohol control agent at a bar when the agent was trying to arrest an underage friend of his
•Zimmerman married his wife, Shellie, in 2007. They rented a house in Twin Lakes. Twin Lakes is about 50% white, 20% Hispanic, and 20% black.
•In 2009, Zimmerman enrolled in Seminole State College
•In the fall of 2009, a pit bull broke free twice and once cornered Shellie in the Zimmermans’ yard. George Zimmerman asked a police officer whether he should buy pepper spray. The cop told him pepper spray wasn’t fast enough and recommended that he get a gun.
•By the summer of 2011, Twin Lakes “was experiencing a rash of burglaries and break-ins.” In several of the cases, witnesses said the robbers were young black men
•In July 2011, a black teenager stole a bicycle off the Zimmermans’ porch
•In August of 2011, a neighbor of the Zimmermans, Olivia Bertalan, was home during the day when two young black men entered her house. She hid in a room upstairs and called the police. When the police arrived, the two men, who had been trying to take a TV, fled. One of them ran through the Zimmermans’ yard.
•After the break-in, George Zimmerman stopped by the Bertalans and gave Olivia a card with his name and number on it. He told her to visit his wife Shellie if she felt unsafe.
•The police recommended that Bertalan get a dog. She moved away instead. Zimmerman got a second dog–a Rottweiler.
•In September, several concerned residents of the neighborhood, including Zimmerman, asked the neighborhood association to create a neighborhood watch. Zimmerman was asked to run it.
•In the next month, two more houses in the neighborhood were robbed.
•A community newsletter reminded residents to report any crimes to the police and then call “George Zimmerman, our captain.”
•On February 2, 2012, Zimmerman spotted a young black man looking into the windows of a neighbor’s empty house. He called the police and said “I don‘t know what he’s doing. I don’t want to approach him, personally.” The police sent a car, but by the time they arrived, the man was gone.
•On February 6th, another house was burglarized. Witnesses said two of the robbers were black teenagers. One, who had prior burglary convictions, was soon caught with a laptop stolen from the house.
•Two weeks later, Zimmerman spotted Travyon Martin and called the police. The last time he had done this, the suspect got away. This time, he disregarded police instructions and followed. A few minutes later, Martin was dead.

And in the end of all of this stuff, he still confronted the kid and pulled the trigger.

    nice points though.

That list seems to be intended to show that Zimmerman has no history of racist behavior.

Honestly, race should never have been a part of the argument anyway. The issue should be whether or not Zimmerman rightfully shot Martin out of a fear of his own safety, or in cold blood. Zimmerman was actively on neighborhood watch, so he wasn't intentionally hunting a black victim. Even if he WAS biased against black people, that's of little relevance to the case. If his plan was to murder a black guy, he wouldn't have called 911 in the first place. It wasn't premeditated murder. It was POSSIBLY a case of over-reacting... it was also possibly a case of self defense.

The media likes to put a racial spin on it, and they like to paint the picture of an evil "white" guy gunning down an innocent black kid.

I'm a fan of this picture. It illustrates just how drastically the media's portrayal of the participants can effect the uneducated public opinion.

        More importantly...

Why does any of this matter to anyone?

The day someone doesn't kill someone and some sort of racism doesn't occur in this country is the day I eat my hat.

Maybe we should be talking about the millions of other things going on in this country that effect EVERYONE.

^ perhaps if he hadn't followed the kid, and allowed the police to handle the situation instead of taking it into his own hands the kid would still be alive and he wouldn't have been attacked feeling his life was in danger if that is what actually happened. BUT this is such old news that it needs to stop being brought up and "discuss" things that affect everyone.

Holy shit... I need to read this again tomorrow when (if) I'm sober... But the original post and Mike's (deev's) post COMPLETELY changed my opinion on ALL of this... I have to admit it... I NEVER have changed my opinion on a matter before... But those two things combined did it for me. Wow...

                      Can you prove it?

Honestly, the media chose to take a racial direction here. Even if Zimmerman made a racial slur while speaking to the 911 operator, it DOESN'T mean that he killed Martin out of racial hatred. I admit that I have my own racial prejudices... and NONE of them would ever cause me to harm someone strictly due to their race. I actually have close friends of almost every race, regardless of my prejudices. Perhaps Zimmerman's feelings are stronger than mine... but honestly, if he intentionally went to kill a black kid, why would he call the cops first? I mean seriously... if it was premeditated, he'd have popped him in the back of the head with an illegal, unregistered gun, and called the cops to say he heard shots.

Even if that picture isn't of Martin in his later years, it's a pretty potent example of the media's influence on public opinion. The first set of pictures CLEARLY shows Martin as an innocent looking kid, and Zimmerman as a sour-faced thug. The second shows Zimmerman as a harmless, good-natured guy, and Martin as a good-for-nothing thug.

The pictures alone tell more of a story than anything else.
By now, you've all heard Zimmerman's side... He followed Martin, addressed him, and then Martin hit him in the back of the head as he was attempting to enter his vehicle... at which point, Zimmerman fired his weapon. Now, imagine you heard that story FIRST, and saw the second pair of pictures in the report you read. Would you be ready to defend Martin, or Zimmerman had you read that story first?

Most of us heard the "Martin was an innocent victim, gunned down by a racist" story, accompanied by the first pair of pictures. Most of us were 100% on board with the anti-zimmerman mentality. Myself included.

Am I saying Zimmerman was right in what he did? No. I don't know all the facts. Am I saying he was a racist that was hunting a black victim? Absolutely not. I honestly don't think race played a part in it at all. If Zimmerman was wrong in his actions, which he may or may not have been, I don't believe race played a significant part in it. The media is making it a big deal, because racial issues draw attention. If you get suckered into the racial angle, congratulations... you're a sheep.

                        i think zimmerman is innocent.

if treyvon wouldnt have been suspended from school then he wouldnt have been dragging the streets at his dads house afterhours (probably looking for more weed to stash in his booksac). he would have been at his moms, in bed sleeping and ready to wake up for school the next morning.

just like that cop that got shot 28 times by other cops for going up a one way street with his personal cars headlights off in the middle of the night.

if they wouldnt have been doing something they werent supposed to at unusual hours they wouldnt have gotten shot plain and simple.
in both scenarios if it would have been same color people shooting eachother no one would give a damn, why? cause it happens daily...

Well, in Martin's offense... he was black, young, and wearing a hoodie... in a neighborhood that was apparently recently robbed by people fitting his description. Zimmerman was NOT wrong to be suspicious, since Martin fit the description of recent offenders. However, looking like a potential burglar is NOT a valid reason to be shot.
Using deadly force is ONLY justifiable if done in clear defense of oneself or others. Even if a cop were to fire on an obvious threat, they would still be required to defend their actions to prove justifiable cause.

From the evidence I've heard, I do believe that Zimmerman put himself into an unnecessarily dangerous position, against the advice of the 911 operator. Had he not pursued Martin, and not exited his vehicle, the fatal encounter never would have happened. Even if he acted in self defense, it was only done because he put himself in a position to be at risk.
I mean, if a Black Panther wanders into a KKK rally, and happens to have a loaded M16 in his hands, should he be acquitted for killing the KKK scumbags because they all attacked him? Is he not responsible for his actions leading up to that attack?

as far as the scenario you mentioned is concerned, the black panther knowing or not knowing what he is getting himself into. still has a right to go where he desires, as far as the m16 being legal under a basic CCL i highly doubt, but lets just say he can carry it legally for the sake of argument regardless. the KKK still have the choice to attack maliciously or not to attack and politely ask him to leave.
