    Unique art;post it up. Anything you do, post it up

    I was talking in another thread about some stuff I make and send to soldiers and thought I would post up some art that i do. Thought for sure theres got to be others out there that also mess around with art.

    I'll start with a few pics of my paper clip art. If this thing gets going I have lots I could add!!

    Feel free to post whatever

    Alright, on to the pics!!

    This is a crossbow I made for a "vampire hunter" figure. Silly, I know. I try to be different with it. I make these and send them over to soldiers at war. Anyways, this crossbow is tiny. Heres a pic to illustrate the size;

    And the figure;

    This is a preying mantis I made;

    And a scorpion;

    This is a sword I crafted out of a coat hanger, paper clips and arts and crafts wire;

    Then I weaved this shield;

    For this figure;

    Let me know what you guys think, post up your own art and lets get this baby rolling!!!

    I don't have anything to post as I'm not really artistic but those are awesome.

    I would think you do that with a safety wire? Not sure if that's what it's called but it's what we called it when we had to wire critical parts on the race bike so it wouldn't come loose during a race.

      Nope, paper clips man.

      Ill post a few pics showing step by step, or close to that when I get a sec. Ive been doing it for years, made hundreds of things out of it.

      I do art different than other people, I like to take something that people have seen for years and shed a light from a different angle upon it. Like re-working a paper clip, into a praying mantis or a scorpion. People are blown away by my skill set when it comes to working with metal.

        This figure started with this paper clip

        This was the first clip unwound and reworked for a leg and foot

        This shows a wire leg with no build up, paired next to a leg thats been built up

        First wire of the upper body, notice the legs are now one

        I love this pic because it shows the upper and lower body are actually two parts, that will be combined. In reality, each arm, torso, leg and head are all seperate parts I fabricate

        Pic shows about how it will lay, shield is not attached but the image is starting to be clear

        Coming together

        It stands!!!

        This is the coat hanger I cut and altered to make the sword. Look at the cut end, and you can see where ive already started beating it flat and shaping the metal.

        The gold is hobby craft/arts and craft wire, the silver on the handle is paper clip. Notice the base of the handle is round still, keeping the original finish and diameter of the coat hanger

        Put it all together

        A little fine tuning and viola!

            FYI, that nickel is made up of 90% silver. Hold onto it.

                my favorite is the preying mantis. And that plastic is cool. Would be awesome if you could mount a paint bucket at the top so it looks like its pouring out of it.

                  This is kick ass man, plastic is hard to work with. I like the dripping wet, but obviously dry finish

                    I have a drawer full of silver at work. Shit I've accumulated over the years working at a bank. I have 300 dollars worth of silerver dollars, pre 60's era. I collect coins, precious metals and jewels.

                    I buy gold on the side and flip it with a national company then sell the jewels to a jeweler. I actually got a 3/4 carat diamond yesterday. I'll post it up in a sec

                        how many paper clips do you generally go through and about how long does it take you to do an average piece?

                            It depends but somewhere between 200-300 paperclips to a figure. Maybe 100-200 for an insect. It depends on how big I make them too.

                            I can jam one out in a weekend if I really focus on it, but generally it takes a couple weeks. It really just depends on how much time I spend doing it. It takes probably 12-14 hours to make something, depending on how elaborate the items that go with it are. Like the crossbow, sword, necklace or shield. I spent 3 days, 5 hours a day working on that shield. It was extremely difficult to weave that pattern from what was otherwise wire on a spool. The guy that has the sword/shield took me about 5 weeks of spare time but the shield and sword were fairly elaborate to design and make.

                            The only tools I use are my thumbs, wire cutters, hammer and anvil(for shaping metal) and needle nose pliers

                              Right on man, thats cool shit!

                              What is the material you were using to do that?

                              And the pic of the 3/4 carat diamond I promised!!

                              Paid 200 bux for the ring. Bet I get $50-$60 for the gold, $600-$800 for the stone. It weighs .315 grams, so in the ballpark of .75-1.15 carat. Ill know more about it when I see the jeweler
