IDK about kindles but I have a blackberry PlayBook. Look it up for dimensions, etc.

It really is a love-hate relationship. I love that I can watch and view HD media. It has a mediocre camera and some pretty cool games. BlackBerry's app selection sucks though.

Also, not having a keyboard, mouse, or tiny girl-like fingers hinders things a bit. There is no "right click". So saving things can be tedious and checking the properties on things like images is next to impossible.

IDK BB's Operating systems and how stable they are or are not. Occasionally, windows close or, whilst replying to threads, like this, if i have to move the cursor and I click the wrong spot, it backs the page up and I have to re-type my post again. It's just little things like that.

I'm sure tablets are like cell phones in that they all flaws and issues. You just have to research and pick your poison.

I have the kindle fire 1st gen. I love it and its android based so it can be rooted. I haven't rooted mine since I found that you can have any adroid app that's not on the amazon market by sideloading it from your computer.

For the same money get a Nexus7.

Then you get HD screen, faster processor, dedicated graphics cpu, and full Google Play store, not just amazon.

I bought the Nexus7 for my GF and bought the Asus TF700T & keyboard dock for me... we are both very happy. I came from iPad2 and will never look back.

Nexus7 also comes with $25 free from Google for apps.

I dunno about kindle fire man.

Maybe Im jaded from personal situations but between my family, friends and co-workers I have seen alot of them just stop working for more or less no reason.

Just out of the blue stop taking a charge and then shit the bed all together.

Who knows, take it for what its worth. I wouldn't buy one.

My wife and I have an original Ipad and the Ipad 3. No problems, ever.

iPad lacks customization and the silly non-standard charger is frail. I converted to Android and have never looked back. Also the Nexus7 uses Gorilla Glass 2 and is WAY more resilliant than an iPad screen. Also I believe he is looking for a small form factor tablet. Also Nexus7 costs $199 compared to the over priced iPad and has WAY more features, and no need for silly adapters.

              Standard USB charger
              HDMI
              Expandable Memory
HD 7" screen with proper aspect ratio, 16:10 on Nexus7 vs 4:3 on the Apple
              Live Wallpapers
              Widgets
              Free apps
              Dedicated GPU
              Faster Quad Core CPU
              Real multitasking
              Better front camera
              Flash support
.... do I really need to keep going?

All without buying adapters or jailbreaking... Score.

For the price of an iPad you could get a TF700T and have tons more features.

You can browse the web just fine. Like someone above mentioned look into the nexus 7. When I bought my kindle that was not available.

I agree with what you are saying for the most part. Im very happy with my apple products.

                  Reliable is important to me.

My post was specific to my history with kindle fire, and my history with an ipad.

Nexus 7 looks like a nice in between, and if I was in the market that is what I would get.

IMHO there is no difference in speed or reliability in software anymore (between Jellybean and iOS5), and the internal hardware is all solid state so also no difference in reliability there either. I had the charge port on my iPad2 die and also a charge port on a Dell Streak7 die, both used a thin frail non-standard charger. I have never had a standard USB mini charge port die on me. If iPad drops their different charger every upgrade garbage and puts a USB mini port on there and catches on with some of the hardware features of an Android tablet I would have no gripes other than price point.

The Nexus7 just lacks a back camera and a flash, but the Kindle Fire doesn't have one either so that is a moot point for the OP.

Since anyone can make an app for android, I personally think that leads to some of the issues they have.

Apple has a different structure to their system, and its alot harder to install an app that can ruine your device.

My opinion, apple is worth the money.

In the mini tablet game, I wouldn't mess with kindle.

Well, you are kinda mis-informed here. First off, not just "anyone" can make an app for android, you still have to be an android developer but the dev kit is free (iOS dev kit is spendy), and second off they have released standards to incorporate in app design to make the experience more fluid and eliminate crashing or "force closing". Personally, I have yet to run into an app that crashes since the ice cream sandwich upgrade. Many of these complaints are from older operating systems (honeycomb and older) where Google did not enforce these guidelines.
http://developer.android.com/design/index.html <- Andriod design guide to ensure stable app development. If you submit an app to the play store that does not meet these guidelines you will not be able to download/install it on your device.

Also Android is nicer to the developers, not only do they give them guidlines to follow, they never remove your app once submitted and approved for the app store. Apple on the other hand has removed MANY usable apps just because they change the UI or don't match Apple's plans. Also the percentage of the software sales are VERY different. Andriod developers get a higher percentage of what you pay for the app, the rest goes to hosting. Apple doesn't pay much, less than 20%, to the developer and the rest goes in the Apple cash coffers. App devs that have decided to not let Apple run their products have sided with Cydia and sell their apps there, a store for jailbroken devices.

Malicious apps still appear in the Apple store, just don't stay there long.
http://www.mytechteam.net/first-troj...store-removed/ <-example trojan virus on Apple store (there may be others).

Any developer can develop apps for both systems, but that does not mean they make it to market. They have been working on fragmentation now for a year and getting a good handle on it.

Like I said earlier, software wise iOS and Android are comparable in stability since Ice Cream Sandwich, in fact many rate Android Jelly Bean as MORE stable than iOS.

                        App crash study:
                        http://www.forbes.com/sites/tomioger...d-a-data-dive/
"Even with this newly released data, I almost still don’t believe it. Android. With all the talks of fragmentation, force closes and incompatible apps, could somehow turn out to be more stable than iOS? Well, slap my momma and call me Sally. Who’d-a-thunkit. Now, I’m sure this will come off as the flames of an Android fanboy but I assure you, I’m not hating. Just found this information interesting and felt like sharing. Did this data surprise any of you?" - quote from forbes

                        OS comparison:
                        http://inforoid.com/ios6-and-android...os-comparison/

                        Market share study:
                        http://skotgat.com/android-owns-64-market
There are reasons they are losing market share, lack of new features, high cost, more powerful and reliable alternatives, ect. Sometimes you are just paying for a logo and nothing special.
"Google is stepping up its game with Android. Popular issues like piracy, fragmentation are slowly being fixed and the old mantra of releasing an app on iOS and then eventually hitting Android needs to be rethought. Developers cannot ignore Android. Apple needs to rethink, or else it’s gonna lose everything to Android." - quote from the article linked.

I love my 1st gen Kindle Fire. It does everything I need to and movies look awesome on it. I would get the new version which is $40 cheaper and has more internal storage. You can root if you you want but netflix, amazon prime movie library works flawless on it.
Surfing is really good and you can get other browsers from the market for even a better experience. Its the best bang for your buck honestly. The new Kindle Fire is NOW considered to be close contender to the iPad. Look into it but I doubt you can find a better tablet for $150 on the market.

                              Lol@the pro Android rant...

All I'm saying is yes, just about anyone can write an app out and sell it on the Android market. And yes, I think that has led to some issues.

                              Apple rocks.

The kindle fire was cool while it lasted, maybe it was a fluke who knows. It is what it is though
