i dunno what all your religious denominations are, but im catholic, and went to catholic school from k-12. as to why the pope is so old, thats simple. pope john paul II was a rarity A) because for the first time in decades he wasnt an italian and B) he was young. most of the cardinals in the conclave are that old as well. john paul simply was elected as a younger man. as to why they are all older, its because of a basic chain of command. you have to go thru the ranks in order to become a cardinal...in other words, just like the military does, and when you become a cardinal you are considered to be very experienced because of the amount of time yo0u put in. i had a feel that there was a possibility of an african american pope and even moreso a hispanic pope, but there always was the possibility of ratzinger because of the role he played in during john paul's papacy and the huge role he plaid during the times when john paul was sick. i hope that helps clear it up. sorry for the rant, its just that ive been hearin a lot of things about the election thru the conclave lately that were really wrong and wanted to clear them up.Originally posted by shadetreecustom
