    rwd thoughts

Anyone regret getting a FWD car? I mean as my first car I dont regret it. I want to learn proper driving and then move into more advance driving techniques. But I have friends out there that would spit at the very thought of owning any FWD vehicle . Whats your guys thoughts?

Honestly I love a fwd car. I have owned a 4wd jeep cherokee and a z28 the biggest advantage the fwd has over the others is mainly fuel mileage...most fwd cars are efficient and somewhat powerful. I have also noticed that in inclinent weather fwd will own rwd because the weight is on the power wheels whereas a rwd car/truck has hardly any weight on the power axles.

As far as on the track the biggest thing fwd lacks is understeer and the fact that it pushes upon acceleration (most do) unless you tune your suspension or alter your driving style around this. RWD cars have oversteer where the ass end comes out upon cornering/acceleration and you have to alter your driving style with that.

I think it comes down to a matter of preference and what you like to drive...I know with gas prices and how many times I have gone to the track I will stick with my 194K fwd 29mpg accord .
No more cb7, 7 years of ownership and 196K on the ticker before she was sold

i love FWD cars, especially in the winters up here in vermont. it would make no sense owning a RWD car without 4 wheel drive, because you would just slip everywhere. However, i do also like RWD cars, because they are fun in a place like arizona, because you dont have to worry about winters and basically they're fun to play around in. In the end, either is fun and make the best of which you car is

FWD is not better than RWD, but it's by absolutely no means worse than RWD. Now 4WD, hmmm.... . I don't know where your from but geographical location makes a huge difference on what people think of cars and the drivetrain. I'm in Illinois, yes scenic Illinois, where any and all cars that are IMPORT are immediately dubbed rice. I'm actually surprised they know that word. But that's off topic . Anywho, dont worry too much about what your friends think, FWD has too many advantages to be called horrible.

Both setups have their advantages, FWD is a lot better for the new driver since you can't go around that easily. However, FWD has more limitations than RWD in the handling aspect. I wish I didn't have FWD at points, but then I have to drive my car in winter and like what was said earlier, it would not be a pretty sight to have a rwd car in the northeast during the winter months.

If you like the way the car looks and handles then fuck them, the drive train of your car dosn't say how good or bad of a driver you are. I know a couple of people who drive track cars for a living and they perfer there type r over there rx7. It's all about what you like.

the limitations of a ff are very evident compared to a mr or fr and if you think this isnt true your wrong.

true statement soy...but it comes to the point of what one prefers. id love to own a rwd car, but its not cost effective for me at this point in my life. and alot of people think rwd mean "drift" cause thats teh new big thing. but a rwd car can grip with the best of them. like it was said before, it all comes down to style and preference. ill take my fwd any day. its more fun to learn on/tinker with plus theyre alot cheaper to mod. na mean?

a fwd is the most cost efficient although rwd cars have alot of power..but their msrp is an avg of 27-30k...which is to much as for a fwd u can get one for so cheap such as the tc which only has a msrp of 16k with a shit load of stuff such as 160 hp engine panoramic roof and its the new celica haha

Thanks for all the replies. I think I've decided to like the advantages of all drivetrains: mr, ff, fr, awd, and not choose favorites. As for the location aspect of it, that cleared up alot. I am from sunny San Diego and we have a rich hearty buttload of mustang humpers out there that are blind to everything that doesnt come in a rwd format, and all my friends in oregon think the scoobies are the best invention since sliced bread... haha thanks again guys .
