    Anyone in a Band?

Just wondering how many others there are on here that are into music as heavily as i am, I am recording my second CD with a new band i am putting together and have played in front of hundreds of people in local shows. I have been playing guitar since i was 7 years old and now i am 19 and am influenced on early Ozzy solo stuff (Blizzard) and anything else with some good guitar solos ( 80's, I know it died off but don't wanna believe it.) If anyone wants I can post up a song off my last CD with my old band to see if anyone likes it. i just need to figure out how.

Been playing gee-tar for about 13 years. I can also play bass, piano and just about any stringed instrument. I picked up the drums about two weeks ago and I've been messin with them almost daily. No band currently but I have a bunch of musically talented friends and we all get together, drink pretty heavily and just jam out.

i've been lead singer for my band for the past two years. its me, three cousins and a really good friend of the family. I play piano and sing, generally we do alot of coldplay inspired stuff, but early on we were jamming a little heavier in the influences of Brand New and Story of the Year. We started playing in a couple of local parties and then attended a few battle of the bands. We got a break when a local band asked us to open one of their shows, most people i ever sang in front of, about 450-500 people. When walking onstage it seemed so surreal, like i couldnt believe it was us walking up there, and i couldnt look at anyone in the audience directly because it felt like 1000 eyes on me, which i guess there were. After my lead guitarist fudged a solo (he stopped after 2 riffs, raised his hand, said "Im Done" and threw his hand down. luckily, his brother the drummer, covered for him at that moment and the crowd laughed and whooped and we went on) it got a lot easier. i had alot of relaxing to do. Right now we're working on some chill stuff, im trying to perfect falsetto in the realm of Coheed amd Cambria, The Darkness or even early Coldplay, and i want to focus more on being technically correct in my music instead of loud and abrasive.

oh, and PS- Pat (Acclude) is the man at gee-tar. trust me. My Peavey Raptor shortneck doesnt even like me anymore after he was done with it.

I was in a few emo style bands...but everyone would move. So it never ended up working out. Fun life-style though...

been playing guitar for 6 years and was in two little bands that never got along with eachother and were wanting to go in to many directions at once. i honestly haven't played in like 2 years with anyone since. i like structuring my playing like jimi hendrix for fun. Still kinda want to try again i love playing guitar! damn i didn't even think about my guitar tell i read this...i think im going to go play it now.

Ozzys Blizzard is like the best album he ever made in my opinion.

I've been playing guitar since I was 12 (damn... 13 years now... more than half my life!) and I picked up bass guitar about 6 years ago.

Played jazz guitar in high school, and joined a punk band after I graduated. We were compared to the descendents (I never saw it, but others apparently did). I hated it though, because after playing jazz, punk guitar just isn't fun... and I tried my damnedest to play with my fingers!

So, when the descendents-esque band got restructured to form One Time Only, I moved on to bass... where I could be as creative as i wanted, and use my fingers. I chose a Peavey fretless bass OTO took on a bunch of sounds... emo (my favorite to play... so much to work into it), hardcore, ska, and a Foo Fighters type sound (whatever you would call that... that was my second favorite to play though). I eventually bought a Carlo Robelli custom bass, and played that with a pick. I REALLY miss playing!

That's the Garageband.com site for One Time Only... the 3 recordings on there aren't the best. Only one (thresholds to adult living) was actually done in a studio, and with a very low budget at that. Those are some of our good stuff, but our best never made it out of the garage in my opinion (the guys REALLY grew to hate the emo stuff, and I liked the sound of that best... our singer was better suited to it!)

And this is some of my electronic solo stuff... It's meant to be minimalistic. I started doing it as a joke (and a scam to make money on mp3.com) but I kinda got into it

haha . . . i wish i could play an instrument well enough to be in a band . . . but i dont know alot of people in bands, and i must say i respect them alot because it takes alot of really really hard work to even get songs written (my gf writes songs for her band and is constantly complaining about how hard it is . . . )

anyways deev, i didnt know you were into ska . . .

I rap!!! My friend and I have a CD coming out soon called "Highways The Team: The Civic Mixtape"...I did a lot of the production and I'm "mastering" the whole thing (w/Cool Edit Pro on my comp) and I have a few songs...we're hoping to move a few units and do some shows in the coming few months.

I'm into a lot of rock and stuff though, mainly that pretentious 80's electroclash Lower East Side (of Manhattan) stuff like the Strokes, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Le Tigre(ugh so lame and so catchy), etc...my gf got me into that. I'm into a whole range of music though...but rap is where my heart is. Cool to see so many musicians on the board though, I never would have guessed!

alot of people seem to be into guitar and have been playing awhile. what kind of guitar do you prefer, I have a Jackson SL-1 Soloist and play through a 5150 half-stack. Anyone ever done any session work for a studio, i get my first shot this weekend. They are paying me with studio time and some cash so i am down for it. i'll tell you how it goes.

Yeah you did! Weren't we talking on hondahookup.com a while ago about it? Wasn't that how you managed to start coming here?

Anyway, I have 2 guitars... a Squier Strat that has seen better days (got me through my jazz years, but it was beat! It got stolen and abused... the strings wound so tight that they pulled the bridge nearly off... warped the neck a little) I also have a Takamine accoustic/electric (full size hollowbody). It's what I normally play, since my bass equipment is at my "guiter player's" house (I put that in quotes because I see him once every few months!)

I play through Peavey amps only... they're the only ones that have ever lasted for me!

Right now I've got 2 guitars and 3 amps.

I've got a Tokai AST-56 Strat copy from the mid 1980s. Tokai was almost sued by Fender since the guitar is a perfect clone, minus the headstock shape, which is a result of the lawsuit concerns. I believe Fender contracted Tokai to make their Japanese Strats. In reading up on the guitar, I found that in some respects in the 1980's the Tokai was the superior guitar as far as quality. I believe Stevie Ray Vaughn endorsed them in the 80's as well.

I have since hotrodded the guitar. When I got it from my cousin (he found it in his bands rehersal space left over from the last band) it had a weak humbucker in the bridge position. I have since ripped it out, replaced it with a Seymour Duncan Invader Pickup in it with upgraded wiring. I also replaced the tone and volume knobs with chrome ones. I also have a Pearloid Pickguard that I'm attempting to mod to fit on the guitar. If any of you guys know guitars, you know I'm pretty much replicating the Tom Delonge Strat.

My second guitar I recently got. It's made by Agile and is a Les Paul Double Cut copy. I mainly bought it because I think it's beautiful looking. It's transparent blue, been upgraded with black speed knobs and is in perfect shape. Not a bad deal for $100. I have it set at half step down drop D, so I can play all my Finch I haven't really had a chance to play with it yet tho.

                          My Amps:

My main amp is a Marshall G30. It's a two channel 30 watt. ITs a great all around amp, sounds good quiet, but can still crank with the best of them.

My practic amp is a Park G10. Park is made by Marshall so its basically a 10 watt Marshall. It sounds decent for a 10 watt.

My amusing amp is a Lab Series from the 1970's. It's a 100 watt amp that has two mis-matched Pyle Driver Speakers (8 ohm and 16 ohm), no internal distortion and basically crap for sound. One speaker is louder than the other. I have to use a Digitech RP-200 to get anything decent sounding out of it, and even then its kinda really electronic sounding, which doesn't do it for me. But it is crazy loud, so that's always fun.

                          So that's what I'm running.

Just for kicks, these are the guitars. I haven't put the new pickguard on the Strat Yet.

the last month or so iv been trying to start up a band of my own. on the idea of Taking back sunday and Brand new. I think i could handle being lead singer, but i need the rest of the band, all my friends that play instruments either gave it up, or are just not very good. im not looking to make it big, i just want to get together and have some fun.

i started self teaching my self guitar about 2 or 3 weeks ago. its going fairly well. Im a bit of a late bloomer being 20 already...but i enjoy it alot
