I need help choosing a topic for speech class..

We have an outline due tomorrow of what we want to talk about in our speech and I can't really think of something that people would be interested in and that I can still get a 5 minute speech out of.

We need two main points as of right now and those are:

Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about the certain topic that I am speaking about.

Central Idea: Giving more information related to the topic.

For example: here is one that was done last semester.

Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about different ultrasounds available to them.

Central Idea: Ultrasound is available to both men and women for various reasons.

What would be a good topic that I can find a lot of information on to explain to the class?

Everyone tells me to do abortion or capital punshiment, but I go both ways with abortion and capital punishment is covered enough in government class.

Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks!

You could do one for our current situation of Terrorism? Or rather if you one more closer at home and currently on the news all the time, how bout Hurricane Katrina and how we are handing it or lack of handling it. You could also say how and why we also couldn't handle another natural disaster at that scale because of our national budget deficit... That's just some ideas, just look on the news.. you'll find a topic for sure.

I bet everyone and there mom will use one of those topics listed above though. He will need to come up with something that grabs them. Something they really don't know anything about to keep them interested and intrigued. What about Lasik surgery or something of that nature. You could mention pros and cons as well as alternatives and add tid bits that people don't know like "what 20/20 vision" really means and why is "15/20 vision considered beyond perfect." I don't know if you have noticed or not but there are more and more people with imperfect vision these days weather be from eye strain from staring at the computer or just genetics. Dude you could write all day on that.

maybe something on personal finance? it would definitely get everyones attention because it involves money.

expand on examples of IRA's and 401k's and all that good stuff. then.....ahahaha....here is the clincher: make a line graph using excel and project the image w/ powerpoint about how much a certain amount of money can grow if compounded at a certain rate over x amount of years. the instructor will love it!

i have a speech already done. my speech was to inform the class of the dangers of street racing. showed a video clip that caught their attention. if u wan my outline just pm me and i will email it to u. it would be a very original topic. beleive me it is a good topic.

i recently just did public speaking at the beginning of the year...hhmmm one girl in my class did a speach on HPV..i was gonna mack to her .then she busts out some STD poster..........
i forgot what i did mine on..but that utrasound sounds like a good idea

public speaking was the hardest class i have taken in college...not because im scared to talk to people...but we had to do a speech everyday for like 6 weeks
it was a weekend class
..yeah just go with the ultrasound..sounds easy.

for this speech i chose 'online purchasing' and adam (h23accord) helped me set up the outline.

i would be very interested in doing a future speech on street racing, so that may help! i did a paper last semester on it.. but more information is always beneficial.
