    Gave hell at Midas today

I went to get the brake pads replaced today at Midas because my mechanic was busy and the pads were under warranty. Big mistake.

As soon as the technician started the car, the ignition key was sticking, so I had go out and tell him to turn the car off. While leaving the customer area, I almost fell due to their slippery floor. A handrail saved me fall falling. I will definitley report this to the state.

Those morons starting checking the car and gave me huge bill. I'm said, "I just came for brake pads and nothing else" . The rotors are above the minimum thickness, but need a litte resurfacing. They won't assure me that after resurfacing, the rotors will stay above the minimum thickness.

The car was put back and will be dropped tonight at my mechanic.

I will certainly talk to the manager and report this near fall to consumer protection.

    Avoid Midas.

    1. you're associating a local branch as being representative of the entire national chain.

    2. perhaps the problem may have been having purchased brake pads at midas in the first place.

    3. rotors don't last forever, so why would you want to be assured that the rotors will stay above the minimum thickness?

absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

a while back before i was into cars, the cv boots ripped on my family's 92 toyota corolla. i brought it in to midas on a day off from school and the mechanic looked at it and scared me to death, telling me that since they are ripped open the axles will break within the next few miles probably, and when that happens the wheels will lose steering control and twist every which way, sending my car scraping and sliding off of the highway into a guard rail. his key line was "PARK IT and dont drive it, or FIX IT RIGHT NOW"

needless to say, we have never gone back, and never will.

          1. Ok

          2. Should have gone to my local mechanic. At least name brand brake pads would have been used rather than Midas pads. Correct me here, it seems like Midas just buys parts from local parts stores, then assigns a Midas part number, and lastly adds a markup to the part?

          3. The rotors were never resurfaced (bought new from Midas) and at least they coud resurface them keeping it above specifications. Its like they want to resurface more, so then I am locked in to replacing the rotor costing me another $100 labor plus the rotor (Midas makes a huge profit on parts markupsl).

Also, they have morons working their.

How do you know they are morons? Are you gauging their mechanical ability off your own?

Midas is known for ripping off people. I've never had a good experience with them. I made the mistake of having my exhaust fixed by them. Not only did I really overpay, but I specified that my stock LX exhaust tip be reused. Not only did the replace it with some hideous one, it was also 2"-3" stuck out beyond the bumper. I complained and they just looked at me with a weird eye, even though it was written down what I had requested.

No, I was trying to walk out from the customer area going outside and the floors had grease or some slippery film on it. If it wasn't for the hand rail, all hell would have broke loose because I would have fallen and would be pissed.
What would you do in this case, just keep quiet?

Being a national chain, whether franchise or not, each branch IS representative of the entire national chain. That is part of the franchise agreement. Most people do not know, or even care, if a business is a franchise. People see Midas (or any other well known chain) and see the company. Peolple go to Midas because of perceived reputation and brand familiarity, not because they do good work (or in most cases that I've seen at Midas, lousy, overpriced, rip-off-the-customer work). A girlfriend of mine once went to Midas for a brake job and they told her she needed new rotors (they had been replaced when the brakes were last done and were in next to perfect condition) and a transmission service. My question is what the hell were they looking at the tranny for? That has nothing to do with the brakes!

They like to find any way to increase the repair bill. Remember they charge around $85/hour labor, I think Honda dealers charges less.

do u know that customers arent allowed in the shop, therefore there should be a sign that says that...its so that customers dont sue for that shit. if there is a sign then you lost.
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!
